The first picture, of the gateway arch, reminded me of the “Home of the Square Deal” arch in Johnson City NY. It was once a factory town, built and owned by the Endicott Johnson shoe company. It is known as the birthplace of socialism in the USA, and about the only place where a very benevolent form of socialism actually worked, for more than 60 years. Endicott, the next town over, was the birthplace of IBM. It really was a square deal for the workers. It’s worth reading about. I lived there in the early 90s. The glory days were long gone then, but it was still a good place to live though kind of low income. The arch finally rotted and was taken down last year.
