Philadelphia’s district attorney’s office has consulted on numerous criminal cases involving non-citizens charged with violent crimes with the goal of helping those charged avoid deportation.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner created the role of immigration counsel soon after his election in 2017 and hired former immigration attorney Caleb Arnold to fill the spot. Krasner explained that the role of the immigration counsel is to help non-citizens avoid the “immigration consequences” of some crimes, meaning deportation. Federal law mandates that non-citizens, whether legal or illegal, be deported if convicted of certain crimes.
“In cases that are not that serious, but have very serious immigration consequences, [defendants] will be offered the opportunity to address their case on a similar, equally serious but not identical charge,” Krasner said in January 2018.
Arnold has consulted on dozens of cases involving crimes such as attempted murder, rape, and rape of a child, according to a list of case charges obtained by the conservative Immigration Reform Law Institute and viewed by The Daily Wire.
In his first year on the job, Arnold consulted on roughly 300 cases and recommended changing plea deals in 120 of them. As a local outlet noted at the time, “The remaining cases are either still open, had no immigration consequence, or were too serious to change. Arnold does not consider high-level offenses, such as homicides and sex crimes.”
The list of charges obtained by IRLI shows Arnold has consulted on cases involving charges such as rape, murder, and rape of a child, however. It is not known whether Arnold recommended a plea agreement or a change in the charges as a result of those consultations.

Democrats slip sneaky little rider into stimulus bill to forbid states from cutting taxes
The only hope is to grow the economy so that the debt can be paid, which is something Americans often know how to do.
But unlike other bills, this one contains a poison pill, to ensure that red states and cities inclined to cut taxes are stopped dead in their tracks.
Reason magazine's Eric Boehm has located and identified this slimy, sneaky little rider:
Buried within the $1.9 trillion emergency spending bill that Congress sent to President Joe Biden's desk on Wednesday is a provision that could effectively block states from cutting taxes if they accept federal bailout dollars.Darn right, it's unconstitutional. If a state can't cut taxes, what exactly can it do?
That provision, added to the bill by the Senate last week, could put a halt to several states' plans to cut taxes this year as a way to stimulate economic growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on how the text is interpreted, the measure could also make it illegal for states to create new tax credit programs like the ones that have become a popular mechanism for expanding school choice. Critics say this expansion of federal control over state policymaking is murky at best, and potentially unconstitutional.
It amounts to a Democrat bid to not just shovel other people's money, but that little thing that comes with money, which is control. Conditionality. Power. In exchange for passing this monopartisan spending bill, their aim is not just to bail out blue cities and states at the expense of red ones, but to make red cities and states as overtaxed and badly run as blue ones.
And don't think this isn't an issue. Democrat-run blue states are hemorrhaging people. The COVID lockdowns have cut the benefits of living in big blue cities by shutting down all economic and social activity and forcing workers into their homes. A lot are realizing they don't need to work in giant cities any more, so the crime and high taxes they pay are starting to matter.

Mexican President Says Biden Border Policies 'Encouraging Illegal Immigration' And Enriching Cartels
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador says US President Joe Biden's immigration policy is encouraging illegal immigration, and brings revenue to drug cartels through human trafficking operations at the US border.
According to the Reuters, Mexico has asked the Biden administration to assist by providing developmental help to Central America, where tens of thousands of migrants embark on a journey through Mexico in the hopes of reaching the United States and gaining asylum.
"They see him as the migrant president, and so many feel they’re going to reach the United States," said AMLO (via Reuters) following a March 1 virtual meeting with Biden. "We need to work together to regulate the flow, because this business can’t be tackled from one day to the next."
Some of Biden’s policies that worry the Mexican government include a fast track to citizenship for migrants living in the US and support for gang violence victims.One anonymous Mexican official told Reuters that cartels have been using sophisticated smuggling techniques "from the day Biden took office," such as using technology to thwart authorities, making smuggling operations appear as travel agencies, and keeping migrants up to date on...
Internal assessments reviewed by Reuters — based on testimony and intelligence gathering — state that Mexican gangs have been growing their clientele and keeping tabs on US measures that would encourage migration. Additionally they have developed a new tracking system to move migrants across the US-Mexico border.
