Developed in 1942, the P-38 can opener was the standard issue tool for the US Armed forces when it came to opening canned field rations. With the introduction of the MREs in the 1980s however, it was phased out of service.
I have had one of these on my key chain for over 35 years...
I have the one my father carried while serving in the Army in Korea and Vietnam.
