Small Business Owner Says Bank Denied Service Because She Sells Guns

A small business owner from Central Florida alleges she was denied service by one of the largest banks in the United States strictly because she sells guns.

“It’s a slap in the face,” Peggy Craig, owner of Michael’s Pawn and Gun in Fruitland Park, Fla., told The Daily Signal in an exclusive interview. “It affects my livelihood, it affects how I feel, and I think it’s total bias and discrimination.”

On May 7, Craig called TD Bank seeking a new line of credit to buy inventory and produce advertisements for her small, 23-year-old storefront, Michael’s Pawn and Gun.

When a TD Bank representative pulled up the shop’s Facebook page and discovered that it sells guns, Craig says the representative told her, “We can’t lend to anyone who sells firearms.”

“The phone call probably didn’t even last two minutes, at best,” Craig said. “She hadn’t even got to things like Social Security numbers or income … it was just [asking for my] address and how many years we’ve been in business.”

Once she discovered Craig sold guns, “It was...

  1. Bank of America also does this. If you bank with B of A, you are backing back door gun control and by implication corporate fascism.

  2. Comrade Obama put pressure on the banks. I remember when this was a free country.

  3. So, how is this different from a baker not wanting to bake a cake for a gay wedding?

    1. In this case, the "baker" would be the stock holders of BofA, and I'm pretty sure the majority of them don't want to have, say 5 million NRA members/supporters removing their accounts and refusing to do business with them over mom and pop stores selling guns. Which is one reason why BofA does not advertise their policy and the DOJ is operating this scam under the radar.

  4. BoA is the issuer of the BassPro credit card. Since they're one of the largest gun sellers in the country, it would seem BoA would have to be OK with that. Doesn't make sense it's an across the board attack on gun sellers by BoA. Maybe an attack on small shops?

  5. Read the rest of the article, guys. This is Operation Choke Point. This is the federal government leaning on banks to sever ties with businesses it decides are "risky" - gun dealers, distributors, payday loans, and several other perfectly legal businesses. If you liked the IRS scandal, and the gay wedding cake scandal, you really should read up on this program.

This isn't some cooked up tinfoil hat InfoWars conspiracy. It's a real government program led by the "Justice" Department, of all agencies, and it's gone on for several years. It's a clear violation of the first, second and tenth amendments, and the silence we hear from Congress on this subject is deafening. If the federal government leaned on banks to drop business accounts for gay bakeries or Mexican Restaurants, we'd never hear the end of it. But not gun businesses.
