The U.S. Army announced Thursday they’ve chosen Sig Sauer to build the next service pistol. The contract, worth at least $580 million, will end the reign of the controversial 9mm Beretta M9. While few details about the new gun are available, the decision is already controversial.
There were numerous companies in the handgun trials. Sig Sauer beat the highly favored GLOCK, and entries from FN America and Beretta.
“I am tremendously proud of the Modular Handgun System team,” Army Acquisition Executive Steffanie Easter wrote in a press release. “By maximizing full and open competition across our industry partners, we have optimized private sector advancements in handguns, ammunition and magazines, and the end result will ensure a decidedly superior weapon system for...Read More HERE
None of the announcements mention what caliber the new gun will be in. The wiki page on that model says it can be provided in any of the common calibers.
ReplyDeleteI saw that 9 mm and .45 seems to be possible for the various configurations. Get rid of women and the 9 mm is no longer necessary. For whatever reason, that caliber, especially in pistols small enough for their grip, really hurts their hands. Which means they can't effectively train with them.
ReplyDeleteIs .mil allowed to use effective anti-personnel rounds in pistols, or are those considered hollowpoints, thus banned by the Geneva Conventions et. al.? If they have to use ball ammo, the 9mm is absolutely ineffective compared to the .45. Only with the right ammo are, then, most pistols similar. Get rid of women from the service, save as nurses and in a secretary pool. That'll fix a lot of things. And increase readiness. Is any fighting group even close to full battle readiness? If not, find out why. Yeah. And how many babies is Uncle Sam on the hook regarding? Right.
Drop the 9 mm, pick up the .45, and leave women at home.
Doom. Trust me when I say this. I have done the research.
ReplyDelete1. It just doesn't matter. The Army doesn't use pistols for combat. The number of exceptions would fit in a small box with room left over for plenty of Styrofoam packing peanuts.
2. If it did matter, it still wouldn't matter. 100 years of research has concluded that all pistol ammo is pretty much equally effective at killing people. The differences between ammo types is minuscule in their ability to cause death. According to FBI studies the #1 killing-est round is still 22LR.
3. What does matter: Shooting someone in the head. Again, there are a few exceptions, but almost always fatal, no matter what gun or ammo you use.
4. What you say about girls having trouble with bigger calibers is true. But the same is also true of half the men who shoot pistols. The cure is more shooting, which the Army doesn't invest in. If it did, girls could easily use the larger calibers too. (google "hot girls with guns").
Your data is a lot different date, regarding fatalities and caliber. Mine is based on fatalities versus wounding at both emergency rooms and morgues. I don't care about the notion of what will penetrate 3/4" plywood, or at what distance. Now, negros seem so use 9 mm more often, and shoot sideways and stupid, but a hit is a hit, and that is what my data took into account, not shots per hit per kill, but hits per kill.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I have seen that has tended to change that is the type of ammunition used. And... no... women can't handle the type of training time it would take to allow them to use a .45, especially one small enough for their hands, without damage. It isn't this, but this is an example of why so many more women, none of whom are combat, to be disabled in the service. Because they can't do it and don't hold up.
I don't know if you are lying or ignorant, or both. I don't doubt your words, I am sure they are incorrect. You have, or are, a vagina in .mil? Always protect their own, foolishly.
Do you really not know any women that use or carry 1911's? The women I know don't seem to have any problem with it. It's only a pound. Not like bench pressing a telephone pole or carrying a 200 pound man down a ladder.
ReplyDeleteI don't care that much. You can be wrong about this and no harm is done. As I said, it doesn't matter. There is no wrong answer here. You can even insult me for no good reason. That doesn't matter either. The facts are the facts. I have had this same argument with the developers at Fort Benning and the Bean Counters at the Pentagon. All of their arguments are ego and mythology-based too, so you are in good company.
