UK police union afraid that illegals will become violent if fingerprinted




The union which represents Britain's Border Force warned that officials taking fingerprints of illegals could face violent reactions from the migrants.

Border control officers working at Eurotunnel, have been ordered by UK Home Secretary Priti Patel to take fingerprints of migrants illegally trying to board trains heading for the UK. The tunnel connects the UK and France under the English Channel.

The policy had been in place until 2010 but was discarded. Patel wants to reinstate the policy to stop the flood of migrants from crossing the Channel.

The move by Britain’s Home Office would make it easier for migrants to be returned to France, the BBC reported. According the EU’s Dublin Rules, fingerprinting would provide evidence that an illegal migrant had been in France, therefore making it easier to send the migrant back.

But a spokeswoman for the ISU trade union representing British immigration officers, said: “That is quite a challenge, particularly if they really don’t want to have their fingerprints taken.”

“We don’t have digital fingerprint recorders, we only have wet ink. So you have literally got to hold their hands and roll their fingers from side to side to get a print.
