First of all, let me define my worst case scenario or SHTF/TEOTWAWKI, an event has occurred that leads to no power in the entire U.S./World, no government, anarchy, marauding gangs of hungry people.
If you look at a map of Florida, to live in South Florida means that there is no way you can leave Florida in a true SHTF/TEOTWAWKI situation. Pretty much you have 2 options, I-95 or I-75, both would be a gauntlet of traffic jams, thousands of broken down and looted automobiles, potential roadblocks and the threat of a forcible hijacking. The middle of the southern portion of Florida is all Everglades, Snakes, Alligators, your only options are to travel through highly populated areas (Florida is the 4th most populous state). To get from Miami to Jacksonville is 345 miles if 1 tank of gas can get you that far. The way I see it, the only option would be to bug in. I'd Put up my hurricane shutters and try to wait it out until the maniacs kill each other. Given this scenario what would you do from the perspective of a South Floridian?
I'd move to Texas. :-D
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I do see your problem there. Unless you have a sea-going vessel that you can reach easily, preferably one with sails, your only option is hunker down.
There's a thought, I'm not much of a boater but maybe I could commandeer an oil rig and live off of fish for a few years!
