Without Apologies, China Is Now on the Move

George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis on May 25 when a police officer used brutally excessive force to arrest him.

It was the latest in a string of high-profile cases nationwide in which citizens, most of them African Americans, died from reckless police force. Once again, protests over police brutality turned violent and rioting ensued.

The U.S. also is torn apart over the national mass quarantine. Liberal blue states accused red states of recklessly endangering national health by allowing their populations to go back to work before the virus has left.

Red states countered that blue states were hypocritical in wanting federal money to subsidize their locked-down residents while expecting other states to generate needed federal revenue. They also contended that there was no longer scientific evidence to justify the lockdown.

The nationwide protests and rioting have inadvertently adjudicated the issue: States cannot jail the law-abiding barber who wears a mask at work, but allow the arsonist without one to roam the streets burning with impunity.

There is mounting evidence that an array of federal officials had plotted to disrupt Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and his presidential transition, leaving Trump supporters furious.

As the U.S. protested and bickered, China attempted to strangle what was left of Hong Kong’s enfeebled democracy. China’s theory seemed to be that if it’s going to be blamed for the spreading virus due to its deceit anyway, it might as well not let such a pandemic go to waste.

The Chinese strategy in reaction to disclosures that it hid vital data about the virus and exposed the world to contagion while it quarantined its own cities has devolved from “So what?” to the current “What exactly are you going to do about it?”

China also decided to ramp up its perennial border confrontations with India, as its forces encroached on Indian soil in the Himalayas. What better way to show the world that a defiant China is dangerous than agitate the world’s largest democracy?

Beijing has warned European nations that if their independent media continued to condemn China, there could be commercial retaliation. A few European journalists still exposed Chinese deceit, even as shaken European Union leaders backtracked and tried to contextualize Chinese misbehavior.

Japan and South Korea worried that China might move on Taiwan. They knew that if China did, only the United States—convulsed by quarantines, riots, and a contentious presidential race—could stand up to Beijing.

For years, China has bullied and waged a virtual commercial war against Asian democracies, such as Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia. It has subverted almost all international trading norms.

The Chinese government assumed that Western elites would get rich by being complicit in China’s cheating and would thus help sell out their own countries. They were mostly right on both counts.

As China westernized its economy, it conned gullible Western officials that eventually it planned to become a useful member of the family of nations.
In truth, China strategically hoarded cash from its asymmetrical trade surpluses. It planted its functionaries throughout transnational organizations and subverted them.

It beefed up its military and planted island bases in international waters. It compromised strategically important nations by investing in their infrastructure through its neocolonial and imperialist multitrillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative.

China may have been forced by the global epidemic to give up its nice-guy facade. But it has insidiously pivoted from global friend to its new role as overt global villain.

If the world had been anxious over the intentions of a suspiciously nice China, it will become downright terrified of an overtly...

May sees biggest jobs increase ever of 2.5 million as economy starts to recover from coronavirus

KEY POINTS

  • Nonfarm payrolls rose by 2.5 million in May and the unemployment rate fell to 13.3%.
  • Wall Street estimates had been for a decline of 8.3 million and a jobless level of 19.5%, which would have been the worst since the Great Depression era.
  • Much of the gain came from those classified as temporary layoffs due to the coronavirus-related economic shutdown.
  • Leisure and hospitality represented almost half the jobs gained.

U.S. economy added 2.5 million jobs in May—Four experts on what the recovery could look like

Employment stunningly rose by 2.5 million in May and the jobless rate declined to 13.3%, according to data Friday from the Labor Department that was far better than economists had been expecting and indicated that an economic turnaround could be close at hand.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting payrolls to drop by 8.33 million and the unemployment rate to rise to 19.5% from April’s 14.7%. If Wall Street expectations had been accurate, it would have been the worst figure since the Great Depression.

As it turned out, May’s numbers showed the U.S. may well be on the road to recovery after its fastest plunge in history.

“It seems the damage from the nationwide lockdown was not as severe or as lasting as we feared a month ago,” said Scott Clemons, chief investment strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman.

The stock market roared higher following the report as the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 800 points as of 11 a.m. ET. Government bond yields raced higher as well, with the benchmark 10-year Treasury most recently at 0.91%.

President Donald Trump expressed pleasure at the report, directing two tweets to CNBC.

The May gain was by far the biggest one-month jobs surge in U.S. history since at least 1939. The only previous month to register more than a million jobs was September 1983, at 1.1 million.

“Barring a second surge of Covid-19, the overall U.S. economy may have turned a corner, as evidenced by the surprise job gains today, even though it still remains to be seen exactly what the new normal will look like,” said Tony Bedikian, head of global markets at Citizens Bank.

The jump in employment almost perfectly mirrored the 2.7 million decrease in workers who reported being on...

The FBI detained a group of Venezuelans and Cubans who were paying to cause chaos in the protests in the United States.

A group of people was detained during the protests in the United States.

The FBI captured Miami and other cities in the United States of various groups of people from Haiti, Venezuela, Cuba and Honduras, who received money to finance violent groups during the protests that took place this weekend, regarding the murder of the African American citizen George Floyd.

The detainees admitted having received money from activists to participate in the protests.

“There are definitely individuals associated with Venezuela who paid trips to people to various cities in the United States to promote chaos,” one of the people working in the undercover investigations told the news portal First Report.

According to the information, the detainees were interrogated by FBI domestic counter-terrorism agents.

Authorities confirmed that they are trying to determine whether the people who made payments to promote the riots have ties to foreign intelligence agencies, both from the Venezuelan regime and the dictatorship of Cuba.

The investigations are in charge of the Miami District Attorney and they continue in progress because at least two of those captured were seized large amounts of cash whose origin and destination were not established, according to the Journal of the Americas.

Several of the detainees are residents of the Miami area known as Little Haiti, who participated in the riots in downtown Miami between...

Large Numbers of Chinese Nationals Caught Cheating in U.S. College Applications and in Classrooms

Eduardo Neret of Campus Reform recently reported on some of the “many methods that Chinese nationals have reportedly used to gain acceptance into U.S. colleges and universities.”

“Fake transcripts and essays, falsified letters of recommendation and test scores, paid consultants, and fake passports and IDs” are some of the ways that Chinese nationals try to enter the U.S. educational system.

These incidents started out as isolated incidents but “has now turned into a vast, international money-making industry.”

In April, Hiu Kit David Chong, an admissions official at the University of Southern California (USC), pleaded guilty in April to wire fraud and in aiding Chinese students create fraudulent college applications. According to the Department of Justice, confessed to making $40,000 from a number of clients during the past few years by providing “false college transcripts with inflated grades,” “fraudulent personal statements,” and “phony letters of recommendation” to them as they applied to universities.

Additionally, the admissions official even offered to supply surrogate test takers for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam for international students.

A 2012 report by Time Magazine highlighted how a “huge industry of education agents” has grown to cater to a growing number of Chinese nationals who have desires of studying abroad at U.S. universities.

According to Zinch China, a consultancy firm, 80 percent of Chinese students use agents to file applications to U.S. colleges, with increasing numbers of them engaged in cheating. The company estimated that 90 percent of recommendation letters and 70 percent of college essays that Chinese students submitted are fraudulent. Furthermore, 50 percent of previous grade transcripts are also fraudulent. Ten percent lied about academic or extracurricular achievements and another 30 percent lied about financial aid information.

Surveys revealed that Chinese families view U.S. education as a luxury that can yield future financial benefits, which motivates the “whatever it takes” mentality that characterizes the manner in which Chinese nationals go about the application process. Zinch China also highlighted that the competition among college consultants and the pressure from...

Rioters Don’t Want Criminal Justice Reform — They Want A Revolution

The white privilege on display here is on the left, where radical whites play at revolution, often to the detriment of poor minorities.

These rioters aren’t Martin Luther King Jr. or even Malcolm X. They are Alex and his droogs from “A Clockwork Orange” out for a night on the town, albeit with less style and a duller patois. Violence is the point.

Protests responding to the cruel police killing of George Floyd have been turned into nationwide riots and looting. This is not about Floyd anymore. His killing was universally condemned, the cops involved were fired, and homicide charges have been brought against the officer who knelt on Floyd’s neck. More should be done, and what has been done could have been done sooner, but folks are not looting the Nike store in downtown Chicago for greater justice. They just want to smash things and take stuff.

The very real problems of police misconduct and racial injustice have been buried under rubble and broken glass, then obscured in a haze of smoke and tear gas. Progress was possible— in his last State of the Union address, our bombastic Republican president was boasting about criminal justice reform — but that requires basic civil order. The problem with “no justice, no peace” is that although the absence of justice will indeed corrode peace, without peace there is no possibility of justice.

Meet the Revolutionaries

As the violent destruction escalated, much of the press spun conspiracy theories about white supremacist agitators and, of course, Russia. That was nonsense. The outside agitators are the same (mostly local) anarchist goons and Antifa thugs we have watched for years. The white privilege on display here is on the left, where radical whites play at revolution, often to the detriment of poor minorities. The radicals don’t care, because they want revolution, not reform. They want more violence, not less. They want to burn it down, regardless of whether “it” is a police station, an upscale shop, or a minority neighborhood.

Some of those taking to the streets want to protest peacefully, some are determined to incite violence and destruction, and others are somewhere in between. But in a crowd, these categories are fluid, and despite efforts by genuine protesters to maintain order in their ranks, the tendency is toward escalation, especially with the excitement of a righteous cause after weeks of being in lockdown. Mob violence, destruction, and theft are thrilling, especially after being stuck mostly alone and...

CAUGHT ON TAPE: Democratic Socialists of America Train Protesters To Loot and Riot

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) of Broward County admitted in a training session for George Floyd protesters Wednesday that they support looting and rioting, NATIONAL FILE has exclusively learned.

“I firmly believe that quote unquote looting and rioting is nonviolent,” said one of the participants on the DSA call. “That’s my personal belief. I think that we need to change the narrative.”

“I still, and a lot of our groups, still actually support and stand in solidarity for people who are taking those actions. So it’s so important to change the language to say uprisings, to say redistributing wealth, and not recreate this narrative of peaceful versus violent, because we know who the true violent people are. They are police. And we are responding to that. So just want to make sure folks are clear on that.”

Those speaking on the call were Tifanny Burks, Paula Munoz, Asa Rogers-Shaw, Quayneshia Smith, and Cindy Mahendar.

Of those five, Munoz had her microphone muted while these remarks were said. Additionally, Rogers-Shaw, a man, was not the speaker.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) chapter of Broward County, Florida is organizing anti-police protest activity in Florida in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in police custody, and also convened a direct action training session Wednesday on “how to manage a protest.” DSA Broward stated on Twitter, “We’ve received an overwhelmingly positive response from those who joined in demanding justice for George Floyd, Tony McDade, and countless others whose lives were destroyed by police, last Sunday. In an effort to ensure safety and solidarity 2/2 Today 7PM we’re hosting a direct action training to equip all who attend with the skills and tactics of how to...

QUIZ: Who Said It: Activist or Journalist?

For some time now, the commentary from political journalists has been increasingly hard to distinguish from the commentary from political activists. Think you can tell the difference? Read the quotes. Take the quiz. Watch the video to find the answers.

1) "The president seems to think that dominating black people, dominating peaceful protesters is law and order. It's not."

2) "American history is one in which white Americans, by and large, have been taught to have indifference or even contempt for black life. We have defined the country as a white nation where people of color are here on a guest pass."

3) "Let's be clear: Donald Trump wants to divide and conquer America so he can loot us all."

4) "It is for the folks that he knows will stick with him no matter what. It is for, he thinks, dumb faith leaders who will fall for this stunt…. We're seeing the depths and the darkness of those culture wars and where he is willing to go in a moment like this."

5) "Please, show me where it says that protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful. Because I can show you that outraged citizens are the ones who have made America what she is."

6) "What is happening in America is that white nationalism ideology is running wild, and the reason why buildings are burning is because this city, this state, would prefer preserving that white nationalism and that white supremacist mindset over arresting, charging, and helping to convict four officers who killed a black man."

7) "Yes, it is disturbing to see property being destroyed, it is disturbing to see people taking property from stores, but these are things…. Destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence."

8) "Racism is not just against black people, it is against democracy itself."

9) "Open your eyes, America. Open your eyes. We are teetering on a dictatorship. This is chaos…. Is the president declaring war on Americans? What is happening here?"

10) "You can’t curfew the truth. It will find a way out. Truth crushed to earth shall rise again."

ANSWERS:

A silent majority? Black Americans reject violence, looting in neighborhoods after Floyd death

The rioters are 'reflective of a small subset of black America that is jobless, lawless, wild, and capable of the brutality we saw,' said Rob Smith, a black conservative activist and decorated Iraq War veteran, but 'the silent majority will always stay on the side of law and order.'

Black Americans across the ideological spectrum are speaking in support of peaceful protest — but rejecting the violence, looting, and destruction of black neighborhoods after the gruesome death of George Floyd, an African-American man, at the hands of Minneapolis police.

"Black America, like broader America, they're sympathizing with the fact that the murder that triggered all of this was a horrible thing, and I think all reasonable people are appalled by it and protested," said Shelby Steele, well-known author, documentary maker and senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. "After that, things become more murky. There's a certainly a segment of black America — Black Lives Matter and so forth — that want to sort of use this tragedy as a means to power, as a means to dominance in American life. Saying blacks are victims, and we have to take care of them in that sense to them, and appease them."

While acknowledging there is "a segment of black America — Black Lives Matter and so forth — that want to sort of use this tragedy as a means to power, as a means to dominance in American life," Steele says, "There's a growing number of blacks in America, who take the opposite point of view: That we've never been freer, and opportunity is sort of waiting for us to take advantage of it, and that we need to be busy with that, rather than getting sidetracked here, pretending that racial progress has never been made and that blacks are still victims. We're not. We're free. And no one sanctions that kind of murder that occurred. Nobody, certainly no one I've ever seen, not one single person is supportive of that. So I think that's...
