  1. Quote attributed to English General Kitchener, the Battle of Omdurman in 1898, in which his army destroyed the entire primitive jihadi army of the Mahdi in a very short time, avenging the slaughter at Khartum the year before:
    “Whatever happens
    We have got
    The Maxim gun
    And they have not”

Sadly he learned nothing from his, and a couple decades later marched an entire English army, exhausted from a long forced march and wearing full packs, uphill into battle against the German forces, armed with hundreds of machine guns in one of the early battles of WWI.
60,000 English troops wounded, 19,000 killed in one afternoon, battle of the Somme, 1916.

    He should have hung.
