Impact and Legacy
The device shifted the portable music market away from bulky portable CD players and clunky MP3 players. It transformed Apple from primarily a computer manufacturer into a dominant consumer technology titan, laying the essential groundwork for the introduction of the iPhone six years later in 2007. Apple officially discontinued the final remaining iPod model (the iPod touch) on May 10, 2022. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
