I like Vance, grew up poor similarly to him, and have risen greatly from my low beginnings (albeit not as high as Vance). But he is WRONG on why we pay our taxes.
It's not to benefit those who have less than us, though that might be a minor factor for a few of the more altruistic amongst us. The reason most of us pay our taxes is so that we don't incur greater penalties or go to jail. We are literally giving up our money at the point of a gun. Not out of altruism.
