You think it is 7.65%? Try being self employed. The real number is 15.3%. If employed, your employer pays the other 7.65%. If not being taxed, that money would be available to pay you for your work. Really. I was self employed for years and I had to pay the full 15.3% right off the top before any business expenses or other items were paid. And since I got that money, it increased my income tax burden as well.
