I was in the Coast Guard in Alameda when the Oakland Hills wildfire happened in '91. I actually saw the fire start from a distance. I knew it was going to be a big one, as the winds were ridiculously strong that day. The crew of my ship was called in after the fire to do erosion control. The actual fire was a reflash of a small brush fire in the Berkeley Hills. When it reflashed it went straight south to the Oakland Hills. We did the erosion control in the Oakland Hills, NOT the Berkeley Hills. I can tell you that a wildfire CAN and WILL melt glass. I saw the foundations of houses where metal window frames fell over onto steel I-beam floor joists. The glass in them, the old school safety glass with the wire mesh in them, melted down into the basement like icicles. I saw cars that were incinerated. The fire was so hot that it MELTED the aluminum engine blocks and transmissions. The molten metal had run down the gutters and solidified. The fire area was completely incinerated, except for a couple of areas that were unbelievably unscathed. I remember one spot in the middle of what looked like a nuke blast site. Nothing was left... except a patch of grass, a tree, and an old wooden Adirondack chair. The Victorian house that stood RIGHT NEXT TO THIS was nothing but a charred foundation.

This fire WASN'T the result if a DEW. It was a NATURAL OCCURANCE. I witnessed its start and its resulting destruction. Could the Maui and Santa Rosa fires have been a direct result of a DEW? Who knows? One thing is for sure though; that "forensic arborist" doesn't know what he's talking about. Natural wildfires WILL melt glass. They WILL melt aluminum. They WILL burn structures and leave trees unscathed. They WILL jump from structure to structure without damaging the trees. Oh; and microwave energy EXCITES water molecules. That's how microwave ovens work. Microwave energy strong enough to set structures on fire would also turn the leaves on the surrounding trees to mush, and may actually blow the trunks apart due to water in them boiling and the steam having no place to go...

...Critical reasoning is ESSENTIAL here, folks...

Who in their fucking right mind is gonna come up to a large black man like that idiot? I'm not down living with blacks but I don't blame that dude at all for his actions.

Yeah... That guy was a MORON and deserved and almost received the Darwin Award!

Just a note to Peteforester, aluminum melts at 1,221 degrees F, modern windshield type glass melts between 2,552 and 2,912 degrees F. Google it

Thank you for saying it, I am sick and tired of this power of suggestion crap. I have witnessed tornado/wind storms destroy a farm to its foundations only to leave the next house in line less than a hundred yards away untouched. I am am talking laundry still on the clothes line, delicate flowers in there little pots all completely untouched. God rules this planet!

The issue in the Maui fire was that the area the fire was in is historic and could not be touched by developers. As the fire started the police kept the people separated into certain roads and not allowed to their homes. Many children were home as the fire came through. Many people dove into the water to escape the fire. No help came after and the the area that was hurt was limited to the historic area. Now much of the area is sealed off by the government, which does not allow for the people or media to access.
