At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, an American B-29 bomber named the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb codenamed "Little Boy" on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The blast killed roughly 80,000 people instantly, with total deaths reaching over 140,000 by the end of the year due to radiation and injuries. [1, 2, 3]
