The Battle of Kahlenberg Mountain, fought on September 12, 1683, was a decisive victory for the forces loyal to the Holy Roman Empire, led by King John III Sobieski. The battle was a pivotal moment in European history, marking the end of significant Ottoman expansion into Europe. The combined forces of the Holy Roman Empire and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, under the command of Sobieski, successfully lifted the Ottoman siege of Vienna, safeguarding the city and shifting the balance of power in Europe.

The battle is remembered for the largest cavalry charge in recorded history, which decisively broke the Ottoman lines and forced their retreat. This victory not only halted further Ottoman territorial ambitions in Western Europe but also inaugurated sustained Habsburg-Polish military cooperation against the Ottomans. The aftermath of the battle witnessed significant casualties for the Ottomans, and it is viewed as a monumental failure that culminated in the execution of Kara Mustafa Pasha.
