Sarah Silverman likens teen climate activist Greta Thunberg to Jesus: 'He is this girl'

Comic Sarah Silverman — who said she lost an acting job over wearing blackface and has uttered numerous controversial statements — likened teen climate activist Greta Thunberg to Jesus.

Silverman, who is Jewish, noted on Twitter regarding Thunberg: "You think you will recognize Jesus when he comes back? I see him all around. He is this girl. And y'all don't even see it."

Silverman added in a follow-up tweet: "The irony of it being most lost on the evangelicals who preach Noah and ark and are so totally blind to it all happening right in front of their eyes."

Thunberg, a 16-year-old Swede, made headlines last month for sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on a zero-carbon yacht in order to address the United Nations in New York City regarding climate change policy.

Whites need not apply: Campus sci-tech symposium to only feature scholars of color

An upcoming science and technology symposium slated to take place at Williams College promises a unique feature: it will showcase “new” voices in the field, and those voices will only come from scholars of color.

“New Voices in Science and Technology Studies: A C3 Symposium,” set for early November at the private Massachusetts-based liberal arts university, invited scholars to submit papers if they represent a “historically underrepresented group.”

The call for papers specifies that means either “African Americans, Alaska Natives, Arab Americans, Asian Americans, Latinx, Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders.”

Part of the application process asked applicants to write a couple sentences proving themselves as a member of a “historically underrepresented group.” Yet the application also provides an equal employment opportunity statement that people from all backgrounds are welcome.

Chosen scholars will receive a $500 honorarium and be hosted by Williams College as they present their papers to the audience, organizers state, adding “we aim to create an inclusive, intellectually enriching experience for all involved, including the visiting speakers and the faculty and students of Williams.”

Williams College Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of Science and Technology Studies Laura Ephraim is the point of contact for the event. For the last three weeks she has ignored repeated phone calls and emails from The College Fix seeking comment on the event.

Williams College’s media affairs office and several faculty members in the Science and Technology Studies program at the school also ignored repeated requests for comment.

The only person at the college willing to return numerous requests for comment was an administrative assistant in Science and Technology Studies who said they were unsure who could help The College Fix with its questions.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican national with multiple warrants in both Mexico and Oregon for homicide and rape, respectively.

Tucson Sector agents apprehended three men after they illegally crossed the border into the United States through a mountainous area outside Nogales. Nike’s controversial Dream Crazy ad, narrated by and starring former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, won an Emmy Award for best commercial at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The commercial, which first aired in September, features Kaepernick waxing philosophical about the nature of sports, human achievement, and social justice.

The commercial climaxes with the former San Fra saying, “Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything.” He concludes the commercial saying, “Don’t ask if your dreams are crazy. Ask if they’re crazy enough.”

Nike’s commercial was nominated alongside spots from Apple, Netflix, and Sandy Hook Promise.

Dream Crazy was created by the agency Wieden+Kennedy, which says on its official site that the spot “focuses on a collection of stories that represent athletes who are household names and those who should be. The common denominator: All leverage the power of sport to move the world forward.”
