Investigation Underway After National Guard Member Stationed in DC Dies
A National Guard soldier from New York state died Thursday in Washington, D.C., where he had been deployed since January after the Capitol incursion.
Specialist Justin Grennell, 26, of the Syracuse suburb of Marcellus was found unresponsive Thursday morning in his hotel room, according to Syracuse.com. He was pronounced dead by first responders.
“Joint Task Force District of Columbia is sad to confirm the death of a National Guard member serving with the U.S. Capitol security mission due to an apparent medical emergency,” Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Robert Carver said in a statement, according to Military.com. “The individual was not on duty at the time, and the incident is under investigation.”
Grennell’s death was under investigation by the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department, Eric Durr, a spokesman for the New York National Guard, told Syracuse.com.
Grennell was a member of Troop A of the 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry. He was part of a contingent of 540 New York troops who went to Washington in January.
At the height of the deployment, 26,000 troops were in Washington to protect the inauguration of President Joe Biden, although no threats ever materialized. The size of the Guard force in Washington has...
Pelosi Threatens To Disenfranchise Iowa Voters With Contested House Race
Failed Democratic congressional candidate Rita Hart is pushing onward with a challenge to her lost election last fall to freshman Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks who was sat in the lower chamber in January. Miller-Meeks was certified the winner by state election officials by six votes.
Hart, however, bypassed state avenues for challenging elections and instead appealed her case directly to the House of Representatives, which may determine its own membership. House Democrats on the Administration Committee greenlit a probe into the Iowa contest Wednesday.
On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who chose in December to seat Miller-Meeks despite the ongoing challenge launched by Hart, threatened there’s still a chance the House would overturn the Iowa result to add one more Democrat to a razor-thin majority. Pelosi currently presides over the slimmest majority of her congressional career with a nine-vote advantage over House Republicans.
“Could you see a scenario, depending on what they find in their probe, of unseating of the current member and seating Rita Hart if it came to that?” Fox News’ Chad Pergram pressed Pelosi at a Thursday press conference.
“Could you see a scenario? We don’t do press conferences on ‘can you see a scenario.’ Of course!” Pelosi said, repeating herself, “of course!”
“I respect the committee … We’ll see where that takes us. There could also be a scenario to that extent,” the House speaker continued.
On Fox News’ “Special Report” Friday, Miller-Meeks railed the Democrats’ desperate decision to consider Hart’s challenge after the election re-examined by Iowa election officials was declared in the Republican’s favor.
“There is no doubt in my mind, and there is no doubt in the bipartisan executive council who has certified me the winner. So it was not only the secretary of state, it was a bipartisan executive council,” Miller-Meeks said of the results in the contested race. “Iowa law is what determines what our election process is, how the ballots are included, and all of that was done. What my opponent wants to do is to violate Iowa law, to go against Iowa law, and go against the representation of the voters of Iowa, and disenfranchise...
Pop Star Camila Cabello Says She Attends Weekly ‘Racial Healing Sessions’ to ‘Get Corrected’
Pop superstar Camila Cabello says that she has been attending weekly “racial healing sessions,” so she can “get corrected.” her explanation about the sessions come after Internet sleuths revealed the singer’s old social media posts showing her using racial slurs when she was a teenager.
“It created a space where I was held accountable,” Cabello told People. “You get corrected, you have homework, and you learn. That’s how you move forward. Now I know better so I can do better. You recognize your privilege.”
In December 2019, the Cinderella star issued a public apology in response to a Twitter thread exposing what critics called racially insensitive content from a Tumblr blog she curated between 2012 and 2013.
That following summer, Cabello and her boyfriend, pop star Shawn Mendes, joined protesters in Miami after the death of George Floyd.
After her public apology, Cabello reached out to the National Compadres Network, a racial equity group, to take part in weekly racial healing sessions.
“As I learned more about other people’s experiences in the world, I was like, ‘How do I help the people who are on the frontlines of dismantling systems that create oppression? And how do I bridge that with my own personal journey with mental health and healing?'” Cabello said.
She partnered with Movement Voter Fund, launched the Healing Justice Project, a national nonprofit organization that “serves individuals who have experienced trauma and inequity in our justice system,” according to its website.
The Healing Justice Project initially provided nearly $250,000 to go to 10 different organizations, which include: Black Leaders Organizing Communities, Faith For Justice, Freedom, Inc., Living United for Change in Arizona, Mass Liberation Arizona, MN350, Muslim Women For, QLatinx, Southerners on New Ground, and Student Advocacy Center of Michigan.
“What all the organizations have in common is that they are helping their communities, especially marginalized groups in their communities,” Cabello said. “They all also expressed a need for these mental wellness resources.”
Cabello also allows members of the organizations to use her personal Instagram page as a platform for them to get their message out.
Ron Johnson attacked for saying he’d be more ‘threatened’ by BLM, Antifa than Jan. 6 protesters who ‘love this country’
Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson is facing attacks and smears from the left for admitting that he’d initially felt no fear on Jan. 6th because of there being no history whatsoever of Trump supporters erupting into violence and rioting.
While speaking Thursday on conservative radio talk show host Joe Pags’ syndicated program, a discussion ensued concerning the startling contrasts between Antifa/Black Lives Matter “protesters” and average Trump supporters.
“Black Lives Matter, Antifa are always taking over cities and burning things down and starting trouble, and we’re told ‘don’t worry about it, 94 percent of the time they’re perfectly fine, and it’s all peaceful,'” Pags said.
“Only” six percent of all Antifa/BLM “protesters” behaved violently, Democrats and their media allies keep claiming. Yet that’s a remarkable number, Pags continued, because far fewer than six percent of Trump supporters who showed up for the “Stop the Steal” rally on the 6th wound up rioting.
“I think it was probably less than one percent that actually ended up being violent. Why is it now we can paint all conservatives with a broad brush — everybody’s violent — and you can’t say anything about liberals, but Antifa and Black Lives Matter clearly are violent when they show up somewhere?” he said.
He was correct. As of mid-March, only roughly 300 Trump supporters out of 200,000 (or .01 percent) had been arrested for the Jan. 6th riot, according to CBS News.
Listen to the discussion starting around the one hour mark below:
Johnson responded by arguing that false narratives are purposefully being pushed to benefit the Democrat Party.
“This is exactly the narrative that the left and the Democrats want. They want America to believe that 74 million Americans that voted for President Trump are potential domestic terrorists or possibly even armed insurrectionists that need to be monitored, that need to be reeducated, that need to be suppressed. They want to destroy the conservative movement,” he said.
Pulitzer Prize-winning liberal journalist Glenn Greenwald, a fierce critic of the institutional left’s attempts to weaponize the Jan. 6th riot, would likely agree with that assessment.
Johnson then admitted that personally, because of there being no history of Trump supporters lashing out violently, he’d assumed everything would be just fine on the 6th.
“Even though those thousands of people were marching on the Capitol were trying to pressure people like me to vote the way they wanted me to vote, I knew those were people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break the law, so I wasn’t concerned,” he said.
“Now, had the tables been turned — Joe, this could get me in trouble — had the tables been turned, and President Trump won the election and those were tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter and Antifa protesters, I might have been a little concerned.”
And for good reason given BLM/Antifa’s history:After the interview, members of the press took a select portion of Johnson’s words and shared them out of context to attack and smear him:
