If you ever needed a solid example of how POTUS Donald Trump can never win the support of the “mainstream” media no matter what he does (or doesn’t do), this is it.
Earlier this week, the establishment media criticized the president for failing to visit U.S. troops serving abroad over the Christmas holiday.
No sooner than those reports began to appear that they had to be walked back because, as it turned out, POTUS and first lady Melania Trump both visited with American troops in Germany and Iraq.
Then the mainstream media had to change tactics. Since the order of the day is all Trump bashing, all the time, CNN decided to criticize the president for his visit.
And American troops themselves, just for good measure.
At one point, POTUS was seen signing “Make America Great Again” caps that some of the troops had with them. The sound you hear are liberal media heads exploding.
The brainacs over at CNN rushed to proclaim such activity a violation of laws governing the political activities of military personnel.
CNN analyst and former member of the Obama administration John Kirby warned that having a Trump campaign hat is a violation of military guidelines.
“It is, in fact, a campaign slogan, that is a campaign item, and it is completely inappropriate for the troops to do this,” Kirby said.
“It’s just not appropriate in front of a military audience,” added retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling on CNN Thursday morning.
Really? Let’s go to the regulations.
CNN cited Department of Defense guidelines, which state: “Active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid the inference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause.”
Well, that’s it then, right? Not exactly.
The network left this part out: “Active duty members may, however, express their personal opinions on political candidates and issues, make monetary contributions to a political campaign or organization, and attend political events as...

Giuliani calls for Mueller to be investigated for destruction of FBI evidence
Rudy Giuliani has an unmistakable New Year’s message for special counsel Robert Mueller: It is time for the chief investigator in the Russia case to be investigated in 2019.
In wide-ranging interviews with Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton and me on Wednesday and Thursday, President Trump’s defense lawyer pointedly accused Mueller’s office of destroying evidence by allowing text messages from now-fired FBI official Peter Strzok and his FBI lover, Lisa Page, to be erased in the Russia probe.
“Mueller should be investigated for destruction of evidence for allowing those text messages from Strzok to be erased, messages that would show the state of mind and tactics of his lead anti-Trump FBI agent at the start of his probe,” Giuliani said.
The Justice Department inspector general (IG) reported this month that it found large gaps in the preservation of official government text messages between Strzok and Page, the two top FBI agents who helped to start the Russia probe in 2016, who were having an affair at the time, and who expressed disdain for Trump.
The report said a technical glitch was to blame for the FBI’s failure to save those text messages, but the IG was able to recover more than 19,000 from the early part of the Russia probe before Mueller was...

Brit Hume slaps down Soledad O'Brien over failed attempt to dunk on Trump — and she's very upset about it
Former CNN host Soledad O'Brien lashed out at Fox News' Brit Hume after he mocked her for a failed attempt to criticize President Donald Trump for not visiting the troops right before it was revealed he had done so.
The online interaction happened after the media criticized the president for failing to visit U.S. troops during Christmas - a day later it was revealed that he had indeed done so.
Hume was responding to a tweet from Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano criticizing the president by claiming, "Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime."
"By the time this was posted," Hume responded, "the President and Mrs. Trump were in Iraq with the troops."
O'Brien replied, "Shaming him seems to work," implying that the president had visited the troops after facing online criticism like the tweet from Milano.
"Genius take..."
Hume mocked the suggestion in a second tweet.
"Yes, Ma'am," Hume agreed jokingly. "Trump read this tweet when it was posted and time-traveled himself back to yesterday and flew to Iraq."
"Genius take," he added.
O'Brien lashed out at Hume in another response attempting to salvage her snarky criticism.
"Sorry—let me spell it out more slowly so you can understand me: the President (according to cnn's Barabar [sic] Starr) prepped for this trip several weeks ago," O'Brien tweeted.
"The shaming seems to have worked," she added. "I hope...
