Hunter Biden Leaves China Board as Trump Attacks Hit Home
Hunter Biden is walking away from the board of a Chinese-backed private equity company as part of a public pledge to disavow all foreign work if his father, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, gains the presidency in 2020.
Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s second son, made his move after a month of pushing by U.S. President Donald Trump who has publicly highlighted the perceived – and real – conflicts of interest represented by Biden’s work in Asia.
A statement released on his behalf by his legal counsel George Mesires said his relationship with the management company of a private equity fund that’s backed by Chinese state-owned entities will end within weeks.
The 49-year-old doesn’t state whether he will be divesting from BHR (Shanghai) Equity Investment Fund Management Company in which he owns a stake. The company was set up in 2013 to invest Chinese capital outside of China.
Instead the young Biden pledged he wouldn’t work for any foreign-owned companies or serve on their boards during a potential Biden administration.
“Hunter always understood that his father would be guided, entirely and unequivocally, by established U.S. policy, regardless of its effects on Hunter’s professional interests,” the statement said. “He never anticipated the barrage of false charges against both him and his father by the President of the United States.”
Just two days ago Trump again highlighted the problem of Hunter Biden seeking work overseas during a political rally in Louisiana, as Breitbart News reported.
“He doesn’t know what a gasoline tank looks like,” Trump said, explaining Biden’s son knew nothing about energy despite earning up to $83,000 a month for sitting on a board of a corrupt energy company in Ukraine.
Trump then ripped Hunter for leaving China with $1.5 billion in investments from the bank of China despite knowing “nothing” and mocked the news broadcasts for repeatedly saying that Trump’s claims of corruption were “totally unsubstantiated” … at Biden’s request.
“It’s not unsubstantiated, he took a fortune out of Ukraine, knew nothing, took a fortune out of...

Drug Prices Index Falls Fastest Since 1960s Thanks to Trump, His Economic Advisers Say
The consumer price index for prescription drugs has fallen 2.3 percent from its peak in June 2018 through September 2019, according to an analysis of data by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) by President Donald Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). This price drop has been the fastest since the 1960s, aided by the quicker approvals of new and generic drugs by the Trump administration, according to the CEA.
Great news for American patients! Prescription drug prices FELL again last month and are now 2.3% below their peak. Increased generic drug approvals under @realDonaldTrump continue driving price reductions. Read our recent report on falling prices: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Measuring-Prescription-Drug-Prices-A-Primer-on-the-CPI-Prescription-Drug-Index.pdf …

Faster Approvals
Average annual new drug approvals increased by nearly 72 percent in 2017 and 2018, compared to the period 2008–2016, the CEA said in an Oct. 10 paper (pdf). Average annual generic drug approvals, meanwhile, increased by almost 70 percent.
“The rate of drug approvals increased in 2017 and 2018, due in part to policies of the Trump Administration to expedite the drug approval process,” the paper stated.
If the 2017-2018 rate of drug approvals continues, it will save consumers between about $79 billion and $109 billion by 2027, the CEA estimated, when compared to an estimate using the 2008–2016 approval rate.
The estimated benefits were even higher when CEA counted in the value of having more new, presumably better drugs in the market.
Measuring Drug Prices
Gauging drug price movements can be complicated. The CEA paper criticized some media for using measurements that “can be misleading.”

Virgil: We’ve Seen This Movie Before–How Communist China Is Following Nazi Germany’s Playbook Against America
In old China, the kowtow was the bow of deep respect, even prostrate obeisance, to the Emperor.
Today, Americans are seeing the distressing spectacle of huge American corporations kowtowing to a new kind of emperor, Xi Jinping, and his Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The most recent flashpoint, of course, has been the self-abasement of the Houston Rockets basketball team.
As Breitbart News put it, the Rockets and the entire National Basketball Association have “caved” to Red China. Indeed, pro basketball is so eager to kowtow to Beijing that it has imported a little bit of Chinese-style totalitarianism to the U.S. Just on Wednesday, basketball authorities engaged in the pettiest possible censorship of its live audience at a game, right before a streaming camera.

We can leave it to the subversive wits at Babylon Bee to capture the utter craziness of the moment, in which woke corporate values have displaced familiar patriotic values: “NBA Now Requiring All Players To Stand For Chinese National Anthem.”
Of course, it’s not just the NBA; it’s Activision Blizzard, it’s Apple and Google. In fact, Bloomberg News circulated a long list of American companies that have similarly bowed down to China.
So what’s going on? How is it happening that American leading economic players are now taking orders from China? How did “Yankee Imperialism” turn into “Panda Imperialism”?
Once upon a time, there was the hopeful belief that capitalism and free trade would open up China. And yet by now, we’re learned that the Chinese dictatorship hasn’t been opened up by the flow of American money, it’s been empowered by all that cash.
In the words of New York Times columnist Farhad Manjoo, “A darker truth is now dawning on the world: China’s economic miracle hasn’t just failed to liberate Chinese people. It is also now routinely corrupting the rest of us outside of China.”
We might also let Chris Arnade, the ex-Wall Streeter who found his true calling as the photographer/chronicler of gritty “back row” America, tell this sorry tale his way; dripping with scorn for the “front row” of both parties, Arnade tweeted:
