“WHISTLEBLOWER” ACCUSED OF UNETHICAL, POSSIBLY CRIMINAL CONDUCT

The ~~whistleblower~~ Democratic Party activist who triggered the Democrats’ impeachment frenzy apparently has set up a GoFundMe page (or had such a page set up by others) that has already collected $227,000. That has led to an ethics complaint against the “whistleblower” that is embedded at the bottom of this post. Fox News reports:

A newly filed complaint to the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) alleges that the whistleblower whose allegations touched off House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry may have violated federal law by indirectly soliciting more than a quarter-million dollars from mostly anonymous sources via a GoFundMe page.

The complaint, which was filed last week and obtained by Fox News, alleged the donations from roughly 6,000 individuals “clearly constitute” gifts to a current intelligence official that may be restricted because of the employee’s official position pursuant to 5 CFR 2635.203 and other statutes. To date, the GoFundMe has raised over $227,000.

The complaint also raised the possibility that some of the donations may have come from prohibited sources, and asked the ICIG to look into whether any “foreign citizen or agent of a foreign government” contributed.

Tully Rinckey PLLC, the law firm representing the individual reporting the allegations, is closely guarding the identity of their client, though Fox News is told the individual is the holder of a top-secret SCI security clearance and has served in government.

‘Four Key Pieces of Evidence:’ Republicans Outline Strategy Against Impeachment in New Memo

Republican House members circulated a memo on Nov. 12 outlining “four key pieces of evidence” from the impeachment inquiry against Republican President Donald Trump.

Republicans say the pieces of evidence undercut the claim by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that the president “jeopardized U.S. national security by pressuring Ukraine to initiate politically-motivated investigations that could interfere in U.S. domestic politics.”

The claim was made concerning Trump’s July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Stripping away the hyperbole and hysteria, these indisputable pieces of evidence show that there was no ‘Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,’ as required by the U.S. Constitution,” the memo stated.

“These facts are:

“The July 25 call summary—the best evidence of the conversation—shows no conditionality or evidence of pressure; President Zelensky and President Trump have both said there was no pressure on the call; the Ukrainian government was not aware of a hold on U.S. security assistance at the time of the July 25 call; and President Trump met with President Zelensky and U.S. security assistance flowed to Ukraine in September 2019—both of which occurred without Ukraine investigating President Trump’s political rivals.”

Tillerson denies undermining Trump after Nikki Haley allegations

Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday denied that he undermined President Trump, after former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley said in a new book that Tillerson told her he resisted Trump to “save the country.”

“During my service to our country as the Secretary of State, at no time did I, nor to my direct knowledge did anyone else serving along with me, take any actions to undermine the President,” Tillerson said in a statement to The Washington Post.

“My conversations with the President in the privacy of the Oval Office were always candid, frank, and my recommendations straightforward. Once the President made a decision, we at the State Department undertook our best efforts to implement that decision,” Tillerson said. “Ambassador Haley was rarely a participant in my many meetings and is not in a position to know what I may or may not have said to the President. I continue to be proud of my service as our country’s 69th Secretary of State.”

Haley told "CBS Evening News" anchor Norah O’Donnell that, as she described in her new book, “With All Due Respect,” both Tillerson and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told her they resisted Trumps out of necessity.

Haley said that the two men “confided in me that when they resisted the president, they weren't being insubordinate, they were trying to save the country” and how “Tillerson went on to tell me the reason he resisted the president's decisions was because, if he didn't, people would die."

Haley, however, was not impressed.

“It should've been, 'Go tell the president what your differences are, and quit if you don't like what he's doing,'” Haley told O’Donnell. “But to undermine a president is really a very dangerous thing. And it goes against the Constitution, and it goes against what the American people want. And it was offensive."

Nunes: Transcripts Are ‘Devastating to the Democrats’

As House Democrats speed toward impeachment, some are wondering how the U.S. Senate, controlled by the Republican Party, will react when the ball is in the Senate’s court.

Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, urged folks to take a wait-and-see approach to the proceedings. He explained how Democrats and the media will attempt to frame the storylines but added that the recently released transcripts from the closed House Intelligence Committee impeachment hearings last week show the testimony given was “devastating to the Democrats.”
