Video: Angry Rand Paul Demands Trump Sue Schumer
“It’s defamation of character and he ought to go to court and be sued for it”
An uncharacteristically angry Senator Rand Paul slammed Chuck Schumer Tuesday, urging President Trump to sue the Democratic leader for defamation amidst the ongoing impeachment saga.
“I’m offended and shocked that Schumer would be so scurrilous as to accuse the president and his children of making money illegally off of politics when the only people we know have made money off of this have been Hunter Biden and Joe Biden,” Paul urged.

John Durham Appoints New Chief To Criminal Division: She’s ‘Done It All’
Top prosecutor John H. Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut charged with leading the investigation into the origins of the FBI probe into President Donald Trump’s campaign, announced Monday that he has appointed a new Chief to serve in the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division.
Sarah P. Karwan will succeed William J. Nardini, who is currently serving as a U.S. Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the DOJ press release stated.
“I am thrilled that Sarah Karwan will lead our Criminal Division,” said Durham. “During her more than 12 years as an AUSA, Sarah has done it all, prosecuting violent criminals, drug traffickers, financial fraudsters, corrupt public officials, and a wide variety of other wrongdoers. Given the breadth of her experience and her exceptional lawyering skills, she certainly will be a standout as our new Criminal Chief.”
Durham’s team is reported to be small and very little has surfaced regarding what evidence has been collected in his probe, which was upgraded to a criminal investigation last month. Under a criminal investigation Durham has the ability to impanel a grand jury and serve indictments.
His probe is focused on senior FBI officials and in October, 2019 the Department of Justice announced the expansive nature of Durham’s investigation, stating that the investigation had expanded to overseas intelligence agencies, as well as the CIA.
Attorney General William Barr, who appointed Durham, said in an interview with NBC in December, that Durham “should spend just as much attention on the post-election period” noting that the probe will not just focus on the origins of the investigation. Barr said he asked Durham to look at the post Trump election because “of some of the stuff that Horowitz has uncovered which to me is inexplicable.”
Last month, after DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his report on the FBI’s handling of the Trump probe and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants issued on short term campaign volunteer Carter Page, Durham issued a rare statement.
“Based on the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened,” said Durham, hinting that his team may have uncovered evidence that differentiated with some of Horowitz’s findings.
Horowitz revealed in his lengthy report that FBI officials involved in the warrant, to include FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith, omitted critical information on Page and altered emails used to obtain the warrant to spy on the campaign volunteer. The omission was significant because the CIA had confirmed to the FBI that Page was a CIA asset and had cooperated with the agency.
SaraACarter.com first reported that Durham’s investigation had also expanded to the Department of Defense’s Office of Net Assessment, according to sources with knowledge of the investigation. More importantly, Durham is looking at multiple contracts that were given to FBI informant Stefan Halper, the Cambridge professor who had contact with three...

Imperial Harem of the Ottoman Empire Served the Sultan in More Ways Than One
The imperial harem of the Ottoman era was the collection of wives, servants and concubines of the Sultan, who sometimes numbered in the hundreds. Some were mere playthings or used for the production of heirs, while others rose to great power and influence.
The term “harem” brings to mind an image of a room full of beautiful women whose sole purpose in life was to please their captor sexually. This image may have been inspired by the 16 th and 17 th century harems of the Ottoman empire. However, the harem were more than just sexual playthings for the Sultan. Existing between 1299 and 1920 AD, the Ottoman sultan’s harem was comprised of wives, servants, female relatives of the sultan, and concubines. The women in the harem played a much greater role than simply entertaining the sultan, some had a hand in governing the powerful Ottoman empire. A period known as the “Reign of Women” or the Kadinlar Sultanati saw the harem of women playing an important role within the Ottoman government, leading them to gain more power than ever before.
Large Harem, Great Power
The harem was the ultimate symbol of power and wealth of the Sultan. His ownership of women and eunuchs, mostly as slaves, showed his wealth and prowess.
The institution of the harem was introduced in Turkish society with the adoption of Islam, under the influence of the Arab Caliphate which the Ottoman’s sought to emulate.
Most of the men and women within the harem were bought as slaves to ensure obedience, however some remained free. The main wives, especially those married to solidify personal and dynastic alliances were free women. Slaves and free men and women alike were given an education within the harem. At the end of their respective educations, the men and women would be married off to each other. Subsequently, the men would be sent to occupy administrative posts in the empire’s provinces.
Due to this practice, only a small number of women were chosen to become part of the Sultan’s personal harem of concubines. This group of women was governed by the Valide Sultan, typically the Sultan’s own mother. An even smaller number of women would be chosen as the Sultan’s favourites, or the hasekis. Even these women could be chosen to be married off or sent as gifts to valued members of the Ottoman elite, that is if they hadn’t had sexual relations with the Sultan himself.

The First Lady of the Harem
The most powerful woman in the harem, the Valide Sultan, would have been a wife or concubine of the Sultan’s father and would have risen to supreme rank within the harem.
No court lady could leave or enter the premises of the harem without the permission of the Valide Sultan and the eunuchs of the court would answer directly to her. The Valide Sultan was also responsible for the education of her son on the intricacies of state politics. She was also often asked to intervene on her son’s decisions as a member of the imperial court.
The next most powerful women in the harem would be the concubines that rose through the ranks to attain the titles of Gözde (the Favourite), Ikbal (the Fortunate) or Kadın (the Woman/Wife). Traditionally the Sultan could only have these four as his favourites and they had an equivalent rank to the Sultan’s legal wives within the hierarchy of...
