Members Don’t Recall Biden’s Attendance at Black Church as Teen

Biden campaign trail anecdote called into question

On the campaign trail, Joe Biden has talked frequently about his early years in the civil rights movement. As a teenager, he says, he regularly attended a black church in Wilmington, Del., where he was involved in organizing anti-segregation protests in the early 1960s.

"I got raised in the black church," Biden said in a speech to Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH coalition last year. "We would go sit in Rev. Herring's church, sit there before we'd go out, and try to change things when I was a kid in college and in high school."

The church Biden referenced, Union Baptist Church, was a prominent African-American church in Wilmington run by Rev. Otis Herring, an acclaimed pastor who passed away in 1996. But Biden has made comments that seem to contradict the account. When reporters questioned Biden's claim in 1987 that he marched in the civil rights movement, he acknowledged that he "wasn't an activist" and that his most significant experience with civil rights as a youth was when he worked at a majority-black swimming pool as a college sophomore in 1962.

Now, interviews with long-time church members are raising questions about his story. Biden befriended Herring as an adult, they say, but they do not recall him attending the church as a teenager.

Phyllis Drummond, Herring's longtime assistant who attended Union Baptist for 39 years, said she was not involved with the church in the early 1960s but does not think Biden attended at that time. "No. Not at our building. I think he was probably in Claymont, [Del.,] [or] in Pennsylvania then," Drummond told the Washington Free Beacon.

France in shock after spectacular attack on police HQ in Champigny-sur-Marne by Muslim immigrants

The French Minister of the Interior visited Champigny-sur-Marne on Sunday and said he wanted to ban pyrotechnic devices in a future bill after a police station came under attack.

Gérald Darmanin wants to toughen up the sale of fireworks 24 hours after the attack on the Champigny-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne) police station by around forty assaillants, reported French daily Le Figaro.

One inhabitant told Parisian tabloid Le Parisien: “It’s no longer possible to live here, I spend as little time there as possible, there are too many youths [French euphemism for Arab and African immigrants, ed.] who have nothing else to do but piss off people.”

Darmanin expressed his wish to prohibit, by law, the sale to the public, on the internet, of fireworks which could be considered as “eventual weapons”. For several years already these pyrotechnic devices – intended for fireworks professionals – have in fact been used as projectiles against the police or firefighters.

“I came to Champigny this evening, first to greet the national police officers from this Champigny police station, to say that we were all extremely shocked by the images we saw. The facts at hand presumably speak for themselves, but a trifle more vulgarly, I suspect, than facts even usually do. The German-language news outlet TAG24 reported Wednesday that a man identified only as “Edris Z.” had carried out “a coldly planned revenge murder” against his former girlfriend, a “refugee aid worker had previously denounced the Afghan-born man under the Protection Against Violence Act.” This is horrific enough, but it gets even worse: Edris Z. was in the past hailed as a model migrant, and even dubbed an “Ambassador of Saxony.”

TAG24 states that Edris emigrated from Afghanistan to Germany in 1995, that is, well before Angela Merkel initiated the mass Muslim migration that has inundated Germany in the last few years. Back in 1995, some people might even have still been so hidebound as to expect that an immigrant would strive to assimilate and adopt the customs and mores of the country that had welcomed him. And indeed, it seemed for a time as if Edris Z. was a quintessential example of an assimilated migrant. According to TAG24, in 2006, when Edris had been in Germany for eleven years, former Saxon Prime Minister Georg Milbradt dubbed him an “ambassador of Saxony,” an honor that was given to Edris as a “prime example of successful integration.” The upstanding and exemplary young man was granted German citizenship in 2015.

But “on the morning of April 8, Myriam Z. (37 years old) put on her baby carrier, carefully put her two-and-a-half-month-old daughter Ava in it, and went for a walk in the southern Auwald forest. According to the indictment, Edris Z. was also staying there. Not by chance. But with a hammer in his backpack and the plan to kill someone.” Why? Because “Edris and Myriam were once a couple. Both worked as social workers in refugee aid. The young Afghan never got over the fact that the self-confident woman separated from him at some point. According to the investigation, Edris Z. has been stalking his ex-girlfriend since then. And he became violent: When Edris Z. saw Myriam in the company of another man in August 2018, he is said to have attacked him.”

The prosecution described “a wild biting attack, and the accused is also alleged to have attempted to gouge out the eyes of the migrant rival (25 years old) with his fingernails. The victim suffered severe injuries to his eyes and bite wounds all over his body, and a piece of his ear was also missing afterwards.”

After that, Myriam reported Edris and received a restraining order against him by means of Germany’s Violence Protection Act. However, TAG24 states that “apparently that was her death sentence.
