Boom: Economy added 313,000 new jobs in February

We’ve been raising this caution for years: When the government talks about 100,000 jobs being created in a month, or even 200,000, it sounds like a lot. But the population is always growing, and when you consider the size of the country overall, these numbers really don’t represent that impressive a number of new jobs created.

Many economists believe you need to create at least 140,000 a month just to remain at replacement levels and keep up with the growth of the overall population. Others believe you need to create as many as 200,000 to tread water. So when presidents of either party of tried to tout numbers in the 100,000-to-200,000 range, we’ve tended to throw cold water on it. It’s not that we want to be buzzkills. It’s that we want people to understand what’s good and what isn’t good, and to make it clear that the United States of America needs to do considerably better than that if it wants to experience real prosperity.

How much better? Try . . . in the 300,000-to-400,000 range. Then we’ll say we’ve got something going on here.

Well, what do you know? We’ve got something going on here:

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 313,000 in February, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment rose in construction, retail trade, professional and business services, manufacturing, financial activities, and mining.

In February, the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent for the fifth consecutive month, and the number of unemployed persons was essentially unchanged at 6.7 million. (See table A-1.)

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for Blacks declined to 6.9 percent in February, while the jobless rates for adult men (3.7 percent), adult women (3.8 percent), teenagers (14.4 percent), Whites (3.7 percent), Asians (2.9 percent), and Hispanics (4.9 percent) showed little change. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)

The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was essentially unchanged at 1.4 million in February and accounted for 20.7 percent of the unemployed. Over the year, the number of long-term unemployed was down by 369,000. (See table A-12.) The civilian labor force rose by 806,000 in February. The labor force participation rate increased by 0.3 percentage point over the month to 63.0 percent but changed little over the year. (See table A-1.)

In February, total employment, as measured by the household survey, rose by 785,000. The employment-population ratio increased by 0.3 percentage point to 60.4 percent in February, following 4 months of little change.

Yes, that’s a good month. That’s a very good month. If we can start to generate that kind of job creation consistently, it will be indicative of an economy that’s growing on the supply side, which means that worker productivity is...

Steel CEO Says He's Adding 500 American Jobs Due To Trump Tariffs

"This feels like the beginning of a renaissance for us."

On Wednesday, U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt announced he'd be adding 500 Americans jobs with the reopening of idle plants because of President Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum.

"We're really excited to be able to tell our employees in the community in Granite City, Illinois, that we will be calling back 500 employees," Burritt told CNBC.

The CEO said he was thrilled to restart formally idle Granite City facilities. The U.S. is finally doing the "right thing after decades of unfairly traded steel," he said.

According to CNBC, the process to restart the facilities, which have been idle since December of 2015, "could take up to four months."

"If you don't have customers here to sell to and you can't make money, you have to shut them down," stated an enthused Burritt, before thanking the Trump Administration for their "courageous leadership."

"This feels like the beginning of a renaissance for us," continued Burritt. "It's really important that we get this right, and now it's finally happening."

The CEO stressed the importance of "making things" here in the U.S.

"You've got to be able to make stuff in the United States. If you take away our ability to make things, you don't really have a society," he said.

"Just think about the way the U.K. used to have a big manufacturing base. It went away. If you don't make stuff, you can't have a strong country. You can't protect yourself, and you go by the way of Greece or maybe Puerto Rico," added Burritt.

Last week, keeping with his campaign rhetoric, President Trump announced...

Facebook’s Digital Reign of Terror

Social media behemoth Facebook launched a full-scale assault on President Donald Trump and conservatives earlier this year that has seen engagement on Trump’s Facebook posts plummet by 45 percent.

The crackdown on conservatives and the Republican Party’s standard-bearer came after a year of unyielding pressure from the mainstream media, politicians, and Facebook employees after President Trump’s stunning electoral upset in November 2016. The Left’s farfetched Russia-Trump electoral collusion conspiracy theory scapegoated Facebook, claiming the website spread Russian propaganda and fake news that helped Trump beat the yet-to-be-indicted Hillary Clinton.

Obama leaned on a then-skeptical Mark Zuckerberg

No less a personage from the anti-Trump resistance movement than former President Barack Obama lobbied Facebook’s CEO to play rough and dirty with conservatives. At a poverty conference in South America a few days after the 2016 vote, Obama leaned on a then-skeptical Mark Zuckerberg to do something, presumably to help take his fingerprints off the electoral collusion hoax.

As the Washington Post reported:
Nine days after Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg dismissed as “crazy” the idea that fake news on his company’s social network played a key role in the U.S. election, President Barack Obama pulled the youthful tech billionaire aside and delivered what he hoped would be a wake-up call.

For months leading up to the vote, Obama and his top aides quietly agonized over how to respond to Russia’s brazen intervention on behalf of the Donald Trump campaign without making matters worse. …Now huddled in a private room on the sidelines of a meeting of world leaders in Lima, Peru, two months before Trump’s inauguration, Obama made a personal appeal to Zuckerberg to take the threat of fake news and political disinformation seriously, although Facebook representatives say the president did not single out Russia specifically. Unless Facebook and the government did more to address the threat, Obama warned, it would only get worse in the next presidential race.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was one of the lawmakers who openly threatened Facebook.

“You’ve created these platforms, and now they’re being misused, and you have to be the ones to...

Elon Musk Makes Trump’s Case for Tariffs: No Level Playing Field with China

In a surprising turn of events, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken to social media to make a case for President Trumps recently proposed tariffs.

President Trump published a tweet yesterday stating that China was asked to develop a yearly plan for the One Billion Dollar reduction in their trade deficit with the United States. President Trump was well received during his visit to China earlier this year and notes this by saying that U.S. relations with China are very good and that he looked forward to seeing what ideas they came up with. But, President Trump urged that the United States must “act soon” to increase tariffs.

China has been asked to develop a plan for the year of a One Billion Dollar reduction in their massive Trade Deficit with the United States. Our relationship with China has been a very good one, and we look forward to seeing what ideas they come back with. We must act soon!
A surprising reply to President Trump came from billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who asked the President whether or not the United States and China should have equal rules relating to cars, specifically on import duties, ownership constraints, etc.
China has been asked to develop a plan for the year of a One Billion Dollar reduction in their massive Trade Deficit with the United States. Our relationship with China has been a very good one, and we look forward to seeing what ideas they come back with. We must act soon!
Do you think the US & China should have equal & fair rules for cars? Meaning, same import duties, ownership constraints & other factors.

Musk gave an example of this noting that a car produced in the United States and imported into China pays a 25 percent import tax but that China only pays a 2.5 percent import tax when sending their cars to the U.S.

Do you think the US & China should have equal & fair rules for cars? Meaning, same import duties, ownership constraints & other factors.
For example, an American car going to China pays 25% import duty, but a Chinese car coming to the US only pays 2.5%, a tenfold difference

Musk further noted that U.S. companies are prohibited from owning a majority share of their Chinese production factories but that there are many Chinese owned automotive factories in...

White South Africans face genocide, ‘We are cutting the throat of whiteness’

Last week, the South African parliament voted to allow the seizure of land from white farmers without compensation. The motion was motivated primarily by the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Party, Julius Malema.

During an EFF campaign speech Sunday, Malema cranked up the hate and hostilities toward South African whites, saying that his party had decided to remove the mayor of Port Elizabeth because he “is a white man.” He encouraged his followers to “go after the white man” and to cut “the throat of whiteness.”

Thanks to an assist from Trey Gowdy, DOJ will release Fast and Furious docs blocked by Obama and Holder

After years of legal proceedings and blocks by former President Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder, documents related to Operation Fast and Furious are finally being released.

The Justice Department announced it would be handing over the documents to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform which had previously been unable to secure them due to Obama and Holder’s refusal, The Daily Caller reported.

“The Department of Justice under my watch is committed to transparency and the rule of law,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Wednesday in a statement. “This settlement agreement is an important step to make sure that the public finally receives all the facts related to Operation Fast and Furious.”

The document release, the Department said, is part of “the conditional settlement agreement, filed in federal court in Washington D.C.” and “would end six years of litigation arising out of the previous administration’s refusal to produce documents requested by the Committee.”

Holder, who headed the Obama Justice Department from 2009 to 2015, was the only cabinet member in U.S. history to be held in contempt of Congress for refusing to release the documents to the House Oversight Committee just hours after Obama invoked executive privilege to prevent their release.

Fast and Furious was a secret operation conducted by...
