Pentagon wants to secure supply of rare earths after Chinese threats to cut exports – report

The Pentagon has been looking into US miners’ capabilities to produce rare earth metals, according to Reuters. It comes after Beijing signaled it may restrict exports of the vital materials amid the trade war with Washington.

The US military has asked miners to come up with plans to develop domestic rare earths mines and processing facilities, an exclusive report, which cites a government document, said. At the same time the Pentagon asked the miners to detail their demand for rare earths.

The Pentagon wants a quick response from the manufacturers and gave them just a few weeks, until the end of July. After a review of the responses, the agency reportedly may then offer financial assistance to support the vital industry.

The Pentagon’s urgency is understandable, due to the fact the US relies for supplies of rare earth materials on China, its trade war rival. The group of 17 rare elements is extremely important: they are used in most of high-tech devices and the military needs them to make fighter jets, precision-guided weapons and various other electronics.

The US was once one of the biggest rare earths producers, but has long lost this status; it may take years before it can dethrone China from its leading position. While China accounts for roughly 30 percent of the world’s total reserves of the materials, it produces more than 80 percent of the global supply. Some 80 percent of rare earths used in the US between 2014 and 2017 came from China.

As trade tensions have been escalating between the two largest economies, Chinese government-linked media fueled fears that Beijing may play the rare earth card to hit back against US pressure. China already reduced its exports of the minerals in May, while stocks of rare earth mining companies have been surging, driven by...

ANTIFA DOMESTIC TERRORISM: Armed Man Who Firebombed ICE Facility Wrote Antifa Manifesto

Leftist ANTIFA Radical: Willem Van Spronsen

The armed man who was killed after trying to firebomb an ICE facility in Washington state wrote an Antifa manifesto explaining his motives.

Willem Van Spronsen, who was carrying a rifle, was shot dead after he threw Molotov cocktails at the building and nearby cars on Saturday morning.

“He was throwing these items at the building in an effort to set it on fire. It didn’t work, it’s a concrete building,”said Officer Loretta Cool with the Tacoma Police Department.

According to his friend Deb Bartley, Van Spronsen was a member of Antifa and his attack on the facility was intended to provoke a fatal conflict.

The Seattle Times reports that Van Spronsen also wrote a “manifesto” which Bartley refused to discuss but said would be confiscated by authorities.

Jack Posobiec responded by offering a thousand dollars for a copy of the manifesto.

“I will offer $1,000 for a verified copy of Willem Van Spronsen’s Antifa manifesto that was reportedly mailed to several associates before he fire bombed the ICE facility in Tacoma today,” tweeted Posobiec.

Rercords show that Van Spronsen was previously arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Unbelievably, some left-wing activists blamed ICE for the deadly confrontation despite the fact that it was initiated by Van Spronsen.

“We were really saddened that somebody died,” said activist Maru Mora Villalpando with La Resistencia. “I think what is clear is that somebody died right outside the detention center. The detention center is a dangerous place.”

Meanwhile, others are asking if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s incendiary rhetoric about “concentration camps” radicalized Van Spronsen:

BREAKING, Man Attacks ICE Facility, Shot Dead By Police

A crazed man attacked an immigration detention center in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday and was shot and killed by police.

The man was armed with incendiary devices and a rifle and was setting vehicles on fire before police arrived, Q13 reported.

An employee at the facility, which operates on behalf of ICE, called police shortly before 4 a.m. saying a man with a rifle was throwing “incendiary devices” at the building, setting vehicles on fire and attempting to ignite a large propane tank, according to Tacoma PD.

Shortly after arriving on scene, officers say they found a suspect with a gun, wearing a satchel and carrying flares.

Police fired on the man in a parking lot across from the facility, striking him fatally. It is unknown how many shots were fired or if the man also shot at police. No officers were injured.

Detectives were still processing the scene late Saturday morning, with several roads in the area of East J Street blocked off.

Tacoma PD confirms four officers were involved in the shooting. All were placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy.

The shooting happened hours after anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protesters held what was called a peaceful demonstration.

“Like all Americans, we are concerned about the unprecedented humanitarian crisis at our Southern border; we acknowledge the challenge, but we are appalled by the historically and factually inaccurate portrayal of our facilities,” the group that runs the...
