People dressed nicely until the hippie revolution. I lived on Long Island in 1947 and went to 'the city' for Christmas shopping. It was beautiful in those days....and pretty clean

My biggest adventure in NYC was when I got lost in Macy's as a young child. Never could stay out of the lingerie aisle.
I lived nearby at that time. Notice how nicely people are dressed.
