I processed crime scenes for 7 years (1979-86); worked on numerous homicides and we never used chalk. I think that was an old, old technique developed before cameras were widely used and film processing became inexpensive. Plus it contaminates the crime scene which is a big no no. Maybe if the victim was still alive and had to be moved for medical reasons? Anyway, the analogue is still sound.
