Like a lot of entities, "Unions" squandered their credibility to the point of no return, long ago. Anyone listening to a union complaint and "alarm" about safety would rationally be skeptical that it wasn't just a scam for more red tape, overpaid union make work jobs, IOW, yet another union shakedown scheme.
Gretz, what you say is correct. However, that isn't a universal truth, and we should be alert to the idea that maybe the unions are right sometimes, and it is management/owners who we should be questioning more closely.
Norfolk Southern being owned 75% by hedge funds should give us pause, knowing how hedge funds have behaved in the past, cannibalizing US manufacturing under NAFTA and the like. The finance guys will push things as far as they can without any consideration for physical reality.
I say that as someone who has both belonged to a private union, and worked in positions where I had to direct a union work force.
