Soros says that a kid could not conceptualize the grief and terror. Then he says that as a kid he did conceptualize the need for doing what he was doing. He expands on that by saying that if he wasn't doing it someone else would.
Rationalizing evil. And lying about it.
Victim but not villain. A savior even. He sacrificed himself so others wouldn't have to do what he did.
