TWITTER TESTING FEATURE TO MAKE IT HARDER FOR USERS TO ‘LIKE’ THINGS IT DOESN’T

Twitter has secretly begun testing a new feature designed to slow users down before they can ‘like’ a post, adding to a slew of new prompts and prods before people can interact on the platform.

The feature was first reported on Monday by Jane Manchun Wong, a Hong Kong-based software expert who reverse-engineers big tech apps to discover upcoming new features still in the development or testing phase.

On attempting to ‘like’ a given controversial or potentially misleading tweet, users with the feature are challenged to “help keep Twitter a place for reliable info,” and “find out more” before being allowed to ‘like’ said tweet.

The feature doesn’t prevent people liking a tweet – it merely slows them down.

If introduced on the wider platform, the feature would be yet another in an array of new features unveiled by the tech giant in recent weeks that are aimed at content de-amplification, ostensibly to encourage critical thinking before information is shared.

These include a new prompt encouraging users to actually click through and read an article before retweeting it, in a bid to prevent the spread of clickbait headlines and ‘fake news’ across social media. However, time and time again, this type of intervention by social media companies has been weaponized by partisans on both sides of the aisle, with accusations of fake news and misinformation being rife.

More here: https://t.co/k6OkjNXEAmOn November 2, Election Day eve, Twitter applied the first of its warning labels to a Trump tweet discussing ballot deadline extensions in Pennsylvania potentially leading to “rampant and unchecked cheating” and “violence in the streets.”

Weeks prior, on October 20, Twitter began prompting people to share quote tweets instead of simply retweeting, ramped up its efforts to label alleged misinformation, and confronted users with more aggressive warnings about tweets by political figures in the US in the lead-up to election day.

“This is an iterative process, and we’re continuing to explore features and policies to help people on Twitter make their own informed decisions,” they added.“Our goal is to give people the context and tools necessary to find credible information on our service – no matter the topic or where they are seeing the tweet,” a Twitter spokesperson said of the new features, confirming that the new ‘like’ button speed bump was...

Georgia Dems Start Runoff With Silicon Valley Fundraiser

Ossoff, Warnock turn to California liberals to flip Senate

Georgia Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock will attend a Monday night fundraiser with Silicon Valley progressives in an attempt to court deep-pocketed California donors.

The "Save the Senate" virtual event will be held by Manny's, a San Francisco-based restaurant that is "proudly located" in "a historic hub of activism and progressive action," according to its website. Owner Manny Yekutiel—who previously served as Silicon Valley fundraising director on Hillary Clinton's failed presidential campaign—advertised the fundraiser by stressing the importance of Georgia's upcoming January runoff elections. In a Friday Facebook post, Yekutiel said the races mark Democrats' "last hopes to save the Senate."

More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the event via Zoom, with Ossoff and Warnock set to call in at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time. Organizers also alluded to a "big fundraiser" for Ossoff and Warnock in California that will take place in mid-November.

Ossoff has relied on California donors throughout his bid to unseat Sen. David Perdue (R., Ga.). The Democrat raised $3.37 million from the Golden State in the third quarter, more than double the $1.64 million he raised from Georgians. Ossoff's failed 2017 congressional bid saw a similar dependency on out-of-state contributions—roughly 98 percent of the Democrat's campaign cash in the race's final two months came from outside of Georgia.

Out-of-state donors have also bankrolled Warnock's campaign against Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R., Ga.). Nearly 80 percent of the Democrat's funds have come from outside of Georgia, according to...

Democrats Turn On Minority Voters For Discovering Trump Isn’t The Real Racist

As long as leftists continue to weaponize identity politics and dress us down as if we are mindless cattle, their candidates will continue to lose support from minorities.

One of the biggest stories in this election is how President Trump, whom leftists and their media allies have constantly called a “racist,” made great inroads with minorities. The left is clearly shocked. Rather than humbly spending some time on self-reflection, however, they are doubling down on identity politics by blaming minority Trump voters.

Since Election Day, leftists have been attacking minority Trump voters from two angles. First, they claim minorities who voted for Trump are “white” voters who shouldn’t be classified as minorities. This nonsense is nothing new. Prior to the election, Joe Biden famously said black voters who vote for Trump “ain’t black.”

Immediately after the election, this nonsense came up again courtesy of none other than Nikole Hannah-Jones, the creator of the now-debunked 1619 Project. When it became clear that Trump would win Florida thanks to enthusiastic support from Latino voters, Hannah-Jones tweeted: “One day after this election is over I am going to write a piece about how Latino is a contrived ethnic category that artificially lumps white Cubans with Black Puerto Ricans and indigenous Guatemalans and helps explains [sic] why Latinos support Trump at the second highest rate.”

National Public Radio’s Gene Demby quickly endorsed Hannah-Jones’ assertions. In an NPR post-election segment, titled “Who is the White Vote?” Demby said:

It’s important that, you know, we think about the ways that there are many, many white Latinos. And because whiteness so thoroughly informs voting behavior, we should probably be asking better questions about Latino voters, like whether they identify as white or not. That might be more illuminating than simply whether someone refers to themselves as Latino in some ways.

Here is the thought process behind these kinds of comments Only white people vote for Republicans. Since skin color trumps ethnicity, of course, light-skinned minorities would vote for a Republican candidate because of their “whiteness.” They shouldn’t be counted as minority voters at all.

This thought process is deeply flawed. Dividing the Latino community by skin color is possibly the most racist thing to do. Latino voters are unique, both as individuals and based on their diverse Latin American countries of origin, but it’s wrong to use colorism to explain Latino voters’ behaviors. Regardless of skin color, many Latino immigrants have suffered or watched their families suffer under socialist policies in their home countries. Many came to America to escape socialism, so naturally, they will not vote for...

Rachel del Guidice: I’m joined today on “The Daily Signal Podcast” by Hans von Spakovsky. He’s the manager of The Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative and senior fellow at the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. Hans, it’s always great to have you with us on “The Daily Signal Podcast.”

Hans von Spakovsky: Sure. Thanks for having me on.

Del Guidice: Well, before we go into the litigation that’s happening right now postelection, I just want to ask you, top line, overall, do you think it’s reasonable to believe that voting irregularities or voter fraud occurred in this election?

Von Spakovsky: Well, look, we know it already happened in elections going on this summer. Yes, it’s certainly common sense to believe that happened. What we don’t know is how big it was, how extensive it was. Was it widespread? Was it just in isolated instances? We just don’t know the answer to that.

Del Guidice: While former Vice President Joe Biden has claimed victory in this presidential election, the Trump campaign is filing lawsuits. There are currently lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, Georgia, and Arizona.

I want to walk through all the litigation going on in each of the states, starting with Pennsylvania. Can you tell us what’s going on there?

Von Spakovsky: Yes, Pennsylvania, they’re contesting the fact that the state Supreme Court extended the deadline for absentee ballots past the deadline set by the state Legislature.

The state Legislature, under their deadline, you’ve got to get your absentee ballot turned in by the end of Election Day, but the state Supreme Court put another three days on that.

What the Trump campaign is contesting is that the state Supreme Court doesn’t have the constitutional power to do that. The state Legislature does. They’re the ones that are tasked with and given the authority to set deadlines and the rules governing federal elections in their state.

If the state Legislature wanted to extend the deadline, I mean, they could do that, but here, the court stepped in and did it. What they’re contesting is the counting and inclusion of any absentee ballots that were received after Election Day.

Del Guidice: Before we move on to the other states, in Pennsylvania, I believe there were about at least 21,000 dead people on the voter rolls there.

Do you think that there is a potential possibility that some of those ballots that obviously may have gone to dead people … could have been used fraudulently? Do you think that’s something that may have happened?

Von Spakovsky: Yes, that’s a distinct possibility because, in fact, we know that records for past elections indicate that individuals who are dead but remain on the voter rolls mistakenly are credited with having voted in elections.

In fact, we’ve got cases in our Election Fraud Database at Heritage of individuals who were convicted of casting a ballot for someone who was deceased.

How many times and how many votes that may have happened with in this election—I mean, we just don’t have those records yet, so we don’t know.

Del Guidice: One more Pennsylvania question before we move on to Nevada, Rudy Giuliani, who’s the former mayor of New York City and the personal attorney to President [Donald] Trump, has spoken very positively of litigation in...

Attorney General William Barr in a memo issued on Monday authorized the Justice Department (DOJ) to look into voting irregularities in the 2020 presidential election.

The memo was addressed and signed from Barr to U.S. Attorneys, the assistant attorneys general for the DOJ’s criminal division, civil rights division, the national security division, and the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Christopher Wray.

“Now that the voting has concluded, it is imperative that the American people can trust that our elections were conducted in such a way that the outcomes accurately reflect the will of the voters,” the memo read.

Barr’s memo comes after 39 House Republicans pressed Barr in a letter on Friday to allow available DOJ resources to look into allegations of voting irregularities across the country in several key battleground states. The Trump campaign has filed a number of lawsuits in some of those states.
