A parasitological evaluation of edible insects and their role in the transmission of parasitic diseases to humans and animals

From 1 January 2018 came into force Regulation (EU) 2015/2238 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015, introducing the concept of “novel foods”, including insects and their parts. One of the most commonly used species of insects are: mealworms (Tenebrio molitor), house crickets (Acheta domesticus), cockroaches (Blattodea) and migratory locusts (Locusta migrans). In this context, the unfathomable issue is the role of edible insects in transmitting parasitic diseases that can cause significant losses in their breeding and may pose a threat to humans and animals. The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate the developmental forms of parasites colonizing edible insects in household farms and pet stores in Central Europe and to determine the potential risk of parasitic infections for humans and animals. The experimental material comprised samples of live insects (imagines) from 300 household farms and pet stores, including 75 mealworm farms, 75 house cricket farms, 75 Madagascar hissing cockroach farms and 75 migrating locust farms. Parasites were detected in 244 (81.33%) out of 300 (100%) examined insect farms. In 206 (68.67%) of the cases, the identified parasites were pathogenic for insects only; in 106 (35.33%) cases, parasites were potentially parasitic for animals; and in 91 (30.33%) cases, parasites were potentially pathogenic for humans. Edible insects are an underestimated reservoir of human and animal parasites. Our research indicates the important role of these insects in the epidemiology of parasites pathogenic to vertebrates. Conducted parasitological examination suggests that edible insects may be the most important parasite vector for domestic insectivorous animals. According to our studies the future research should focus on the need for constant monitoring of studied insect farms for pathogens, thus increasing food and feed safety.

Introduction

The growing demand for easily digestible and nutritious foods has contributed to the emergence of new food sources in agricultural processing. Edible insects are one such category of under-utilized foods with a high nutritional value [1]. Insects are farmed for direct consumption and for use in the production of foods and feeds [2]. The concept of “novel foods”, including insects and their parts, has been introduced by Regulation (EU) 2015/2238 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 on novel foods, which came into force on 1 January 2018. The growing popularity of exotic pets has also increased the demand for novel foods. However, edible insects are often infected by pathogens and parasites which cause significant production losses [3]. These pathogens also pose an indirect threat for humans, livestock and exotic animals. The majority of insect farming...

Tucker obtains list of Trump allies targeted by DoJ in ‘terrifying’ and unprecedented ‘sweep of political opponents’

The SA were the Sturmabteilung, meaning 'assault division'. The group were also known as the Brownshirts or Storm Troopers. It was a violent paramilitary group attached to the Nazi Party in pre-World War Two Germany. The Brownshirts are infamous for their operation outside of the law and their violent intimidation of Germany’s perceived enemies.

The Biden regime and Attorney General Merrick Garland’s DOJ have issued subpoenas to dozens of Trump supporters and Fox News host Tucker Carlson is ringing alarm bells over it, listing a number of the former president’s political opponents being targeted.

The media and the administration have incessantly been calling former President Trump and MAGA Republicans a threat to democracy that has to be addressed. They circled the wagons on 9-11 and basically compared them to al Qaeda in an alarming sentiment that presages political persecution on a level this country has potentially never seen.

In a chilling act of political intimidation, up to 50 Trump supporters had their homes raided, phones seized or were subpoenaed last Friday by the Department of Justice. The scope of the subpoenas is intentionally wide and vague.

“Now keep in mind that any claim you make as an American citizen about electors, any claim you make about American politics, period, is protected explicitly under the First Amendment. That’s our core freedom. It’s why we live here. It’s why we’re proud to be Americans. It’s why so many American servicemen died protecting our country. Those are the freedoms that they fought to preserve. That’s why nobody prosecuted leading Democrats in 2016 when they sought to reject electors for Donald Trump. Right. It’s why none of those people, including Kamala Harris, is now in jail,” Carlson noted on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“But right now, according to the subpoena that we have obtained, Merrick Garland’s DOJ is demanding all communication from the following people on this topic, and let’s be clear before we read their names, that it is not clear what the investigation is actually about and that’s the most terrifying part,” he asserted.

“What is this? On what grounds are you demanding my private communications with people? They never say but included in this precedent-breaking sweep of political opponents of the Biden White House would be former White House adviser Bernie Kerik, who was the former police commissioner of New York City; Boris Epshteyn, who is the current attorney for Donald Trump. At no time in American history has it been okay to grab the personal communications of someone’s lawyer because those are privileged. Not anymore,” Carlson said.

“Matt Morgan; Justin Clark; Kenneth Chesebro and Mike Roman; RNC official Joshua Findlay; Trump Attorneys John Eastman, Jenna Ellis, Joe DiGenova, James Troupis, Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Victoria Toensing, Cleta Mitchell, and Bruce Marks. We could go on and on and on and on,” he continued.

He then elaborated how former White House official Stephen Miller is being targeted as an enemy of the regime.

“The DOJ is now going after former White House official Stephen Miller, a frequent guest on this show, with a subpoena. Why? Well, it could be because Stephen Miller went on this network and said, ‘If we win these cases in the courts, then we can direct the alternate state of electors are certified,'” the conservative pundit explained.

“In other words, he didn’t call for the insurrection, much less violence or a coup. He called for alternate electors to be seated if the court ordered them to be seated. In other words, he was following the constitutionally prescribed process post-election. He’s doing what is supposed to...

EXC: Zuckerberg Group Spending $80M to Hijack Local Election Practices and Help Liberals.

DESPITE CLAIMING NOT TO GET INVOLVED AGAIN, THE FACEBOOK FOUNDER’S GROUP IS DOUBLING DOWN ON ITS ELECTION INTERFERENCE.

The Center for Tech and Civic Life – a nonprofit group that controversially used funds from Mark Zuckerberg to boost turnout for Democrats in the 2020 election – launched a new $80 million initiative targeting local election departments.

Under the leadership of Tiana Epps-Johnson, the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) overruled local election officials and increase turnout in almost exclusively Democratic districts through mail-in voting in 2020. Proving the partisan conflict of interest, the CTCL supported many election offices’ shifts to vote-by-mail and allegedly accessed mail-in ballots ahead of the election using funds from the Facebook founder’s Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Though the group purports to be nonpartisan, following several exposés into the group’s left-wing bias, the CTCL appears to be launching a new $80 million initiative to extend its influence over America’s election departments.

Announced in April of 2022, the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence is described as a “nonpartisan collaborative that is bringing together election officials, designers, technologists, and other experts to help local election departments improve operations, develop a set of shared standards and values, and obtain access to best-in-class resources to run successful elections.”

The alliance’s website provides scant details on how it plans to accomplish its aforementioned goals.

Local election departments appear to be able to apply to become a “Center for Election Excellence” and, if approved, will receive funding from the alliance.

“During the first year of the program, we’re identifying local election departments who want to join the Alliance and serve as a support system for each other and for other election departments across the country. These offices will be recognized as U.S. Centers for Election Excellence,” explains the procedure.

“Centers will participate in co-creating values and standards of election excellence which will be rolled out to jurisdictions nationwide, uplifting and advancing the profession of election administration in the years to come,” adds the group, which will also “send $80 million in the next five years to election departments across the United States in need of basic funding for equipment replacement and other resources,” according to the Washington Post.

The CTCL is working with six additional partners on the venture including the Center for Civic Design and the Center for Secure and Modern Elections (CSME).

The CSME purports to be bipartisan; however, it was created as a project of the New Venture Fund, the leading “dark money” sponsor for left-wing causes. The New Venture Fund has been criticized by even the New York Times for its “system of political financing, which often obscures the identities of donors,” as “dark money,” calling the network “a leading vehicle for...
