Here's an update on the situation in Israel for your Sunday afternoo

Things are happening rapidly over in Israel and you can expect more of the same for many days to come, but we'll provide you with some important updates as they roll in.

Here's some of what has happened since our last update yesterday:First, breaking as of 12:45 p.m., the U.S. is planning on moving Navy ships, including a carrier group, closer to Israel in a show of solidarity with our ally. The USS Gerald R. Ford carrier group could provide immediate military support if needed. NBC reports that the ships are currently underway and will take several days to reach the eastern Mediterranean. The U.S. is also working through plans for evacuation of American citizens if the situation becomes more dire.
At least 700 Israelis are confirmed dead after yesterday's invasion by armed Hamas forces. Several thousand at least are reported injured. Americans are among the dead and captured, according to AP News. Videos have emerged of Hamas fighters descending on a concert for peace in ultralight aircraft where many civilians were mowed down by their machine gun fire. 250 people at the concert for peace - including Americans, Germans, Canadians, and Norwegians - have been reported killed. One TikTok video showed the moment the Hamas aircraft were spotted in the sky.

A particularly gruesome video that showed the mangled and mostly naked body of a woman in the back of a Hamas truck went viral on Saturday. Hamas fighters sat with their legs over her body, which was violently contorted and bruised, while they shouted "God is great." That woman has now been identified as 30-year old German Shani Louk, a tourist at the concert for peace. Her mother released this message about the horrific brutality, asking for help in learning if her daughter is dead or alive.

In western cities, Muslim immigrants have taken to the streets to support Palestine after Hamas's brutal attack on civilians. Security around Jewish communities in cities like New York City has been heightened.

Israel's government has voted to invoke Article 40 Aleph, which officially declares war, for the first time since the Yom Kippur War 50 years ago. The Israeli military is currently massing tanks along the Gaza Strip and in the north of the country near Lebanon, as attacks from the Shia terrorist group Hezbollah are expected there. Over 400 Palestinian deaths have now been reported.

In the US, criticism of far-left politicians has risen as the the Democratic Socialists of America - which has 6 members in the House - is planning to hold a rally in support of Palestine after the deadly invasion and murders. The four Democratic members known as the "Squad" are all part of this group. The most famous member of the Squad, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, called for a "ceasefire" and referenced Israel's "oppression" and "occupation" in her statement. Fellow members Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley did the same, while Palestinian-American Rep. Biden’s Iran Hostage ‘Swap’ Allows Iranian Agents to Remain in U.S.

In traditional hostage swaps, we get our hostages returned and we return some enemy agents back to their country.

For example, we freed a major Russian arms dealer and in return we got a pothead WNBA player.

But Biden somehow managed to negotiate an even worse hostage deal with Iran in which the Islamic terror state gets $6 billion and we free 5 Iranians… who then remain in the United States.

Picture a Cold War prisoner swap in which we free Soviet agents who then stay on in the United States.

Court filings seen by VOA show Kambiz Attar Kashani was released Monday from a federal prison in Michigan after receiving a presidential commutation of his sentence, while Kaveh Lotfolah Afrasiabi and Amin Hasanzadeh received presidential pardons as they awaited trial on federal charges. The clemency letters for the three men, signed by President Joe Biden on September 14, had similar conditions attached.

The other two Iranians granted clemency by the U.S. under the deal, Mehrdad Ansari and Reza Sarhangpour Kafrani, arrived in Tehran late Monday after being flown to Qatar earlier in the day.

Why aren’t they all in Tehran? Because the same folks negotiating a new Iran Deal got us the best deal ever.

Iran gets $6 billion and we get to keep their agents.

The frequent New York Times contributor pardoned by US President Joe Biden after being charged as a paid foreign agent of Iran says he’s planning to return to teaching.

“I am planning to resume teaching American politics and international relations as I did most recently in 2022 at Umass Boston,” Kaveh Afrasiabi told The Algemeiner by email.

I’m not sure how the next hostage deal could get any worse, but I have every faith that the Biden administration will find a way. Maybe next time the provisions will also name Iran’s agents to top positions at the Pentagon.

In 2014, a year before Tabatabai began working as a NATO consultant, she joined an initiative by the Iranian Foreign Ministry to mobilize “Iranians who have established affiliations with the leading international think-tanks and academic institutions, mainly in Europe and the US.”

Before Tabatabai testified about the Iran Deal in Congress, she allegedly checked in with the head of an Iranian Foreign Ministry think tank. “I am scheduled to go to the Congress to give a talk about the nuclear program. I will bother you in the coming days,” she wrote.
