Top Doctor: If you want to live, IGNORE the CDC

I almost feel sorry for Tom Frieden, director of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). So many of his pronouncements have been eviscerated by events within hours or days. He has become a punchline and should resign for the good of the country.

Unfortunately, the Ebola crisis is no joke. Two Dallas nurses (who are special people in my book) have now become infected after taking care of an Ebola-infected patient who illegally flew to the U.S. when he knew he had been heavily exposed to the deadly virus.

To maintain, as does Dr. Frieden, that stopping travel to the U.S. from the few countries where Ebola is running rampant would somehow harm us is illogical to the point of absurdity. And it is now clear to every other sentient being that Ebola is far more contagious, and deadly, than AIDS, to which Dr. Frieden compared Ebola. The latest nugget is that Amber Vinson, the second Dallas nurse diagnosed with Ebola, called the CDC numerous times before boarding her flight from Cleveland back to Dallas and was told it was OK for her to fly because her fever did not quite reach the protocolized threshold!

Michelle Malkin describes how the CDC has been diverted from its original role into one of political “transformation.” Rather than fight disease, the CDC now pushes for mandatory motorcycle helmet laws, and studies playground accidents, video games and violence, and “social norming” in schools! No wonder it can’t handle Ebola.

This perversion of an organization is par for the Obama golf course. It resembles the transformation of NASA into a Muslim outreach group, or sending our military men and women to fight Ebola in Liberia. This latter is an outrageous abuse of our already beaten-down military. There should be generals resigning over this suicide mission.

Last week, Dan Henninger wrote in the Wall Street Journal about “Killer Bureaucracies”: “Ebola, the Secret Service, Veterans Affairs, Obamacare’s rollout, the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Behind all these names are federal bureaucracies that are supposed to protect people or help them. Instead they have been putting individuals at risk, or worse.”

There are many anachronisms in post-modern Western societies. No matter how obvious is the racial composition of a rampaging mob it will always be described as consisting of "youths." Irrespective of the obvious detriments of free and easy sexual relations it is still habitually described as

"empowering" for teenage girls to sleep with as many men as possible. Despite dictating terms to (and when that fails, undermining) democracies worldwide America is broadly renowned as the "land of the free."

However, perhaps, not until this pivotal moment in history has the future of mankind so genuinely been dependent upon simple rationality overcoming hyper-emotional platitudes in determining whether this formerly high expression of culture shall endure.

As most already are aware, an Ebola crisis is gradually encompassing the globe. It has been engendered by irresponsible authorities who have all but welcomed its diseased incubators with open arms.

The United States, located on a continent which until now had never known the malady, eagerly flew home not one but five infected parties. The government of Spain did likewise, again to a continent which was formerly free of the scourge. Recently the Mayor of London assured citizens this sickness with a 50% mortality rate will reach England but that it is absolutely nothing to be concerned over.

And while isolated cases do not an epidemic make, careless stupidity ensures it will presently become one.

The most chilling, and damning, aspect of the situation thus far are hysterical reactions by the affected inhabitants. No, not to the fact that in both America and Western Europe there is a virtual open door through which any terrorist, invader or Typhoid Mary may endanger millions. No, not regarding the incredibly short-sighted government policies which have provided billions of dollars for wars and revolutions ranging from Serbia to Ukraine to basically the entire Middle East while denying funds for even the most rudimentary border defenses. Obama’s Open Border Allows New Disease Vector Into the Population

For the first time in Ohio history an unidentified inmate at a Columbus-area prison has been diagnosed with leprosy, state prisons officials said Thursday. It’s the first known case of the disease ever to be found in an Ohio inmate.

The inmate, whose name was not released, was diagnosed with the chronic bacterial infection on Tuesday at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution, according to the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The infected prisoner is a native of Micronesia, a region of islands in the Pacific Ocean, and has served time at three other Ohio prisons since 2011, according to Stuart Hudson, the DRC’s managing director of health care and fiscal operations. The inmate is believed to have illegally entered the U.S. sometime in 2009. He’s now being treated at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Hudson said in an interview.

State officials believe that the inmate contracted leprosy while living in Micronesia, though he didn’t show symptoms until recently, Hudson said. After infection, it can take up to 20 years for signs of the disease to appear, according to the CDC. Hudson said he’s not concerned that the inmate will spread the disease to other prisoners or staff, noting that 95 percent of the population have a natural immunity. However, out of caution, prison staffers are working to identify and test other inmates who regularly came within three feet of the afflicted prisoner, according to the DRC.
