Actually, Trump is clearly and solidly left of center too. Nationalism isn't a left vs right issue. There is no right wing candidate running this time. This time, the ideological fight is between status quo and outsiders. The left is doing their "he's an extremist" tactic because it's in their playbook, even though it really doesn't apply this time. Their supporters are mostly intellectually vacant and will jump under the bandwagon as it passes because that's what they have been trained to do. No thinking required.
