It is a nightmare among infantry officers to go into battle unprepared. I still have that dream at least weekly.
A gun? Have a short, a couple of intermediate range... such as an ar ak shotgun or bush lever... preferably two or more but two ready, and a long range rifle, loaded and ready. Keep the short on you. I live in a Mayberry, but I know what is out there. And it isn't what it seems. It only remains Mayberry-like because people are able and willing to put down ferals. Only white, mostly. All the same, dogs of all kind. Druggies too, everywhere.
