Nearly 70 Percent of Unemployed Workers in America Can Receive Higher Government Payments Than Their Lost Earnings

Newswars reported that a large majority of unemployed Americans can receive more in unemployment benefits than what they were earning while being gainfully employed.

During the last few months, 36.5 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits, which prompted Congress to take action in order to tackle this abrupt increase in jobless claims.

However Newswars noted one problem with Congress’ response:

But by giving all of these unemployed workers a repeating 600 dollar bonus on top of existing unemployment benefits, Congress has actually created a very powerful incentive for Americans to be unemployed and to stay unemployed for as long as the bonuses last.

According to a number of well-known economists at the University of Chicago, 68 percent of Americans that are currently unemployed can now earn more money than when they actually held work.

A new study by Peter Ganong, Pascal Noel and Joseph Vavra, economists at the University of Chicago, takes government data from 2019 to estimate that 68 percent of unemployed workers who are able to receive benefits can qualify for payments that are greater than their lost earnings. They also discovered that the estimated median replacement rate — the portion of a worker’s original weekly salary that unemployment benefits are now replacing — is 134 percent higher than their original wage.

Per CNBC, workers in the restaurant and hotel industry can potentially receive “182% of their previous wages”

With these facts in mind, the temptation for Americans to not go back to work is quite high. After all, these benefits are quite generous and can foster dependency.

Additionally, many of these jobs may never come back. According to...

Physicians: ‘Forcing Healthy Americans to Quarantine Inflicted Devastating Harm’

Hundreds of American physicians have signed onto a letter addressed to Vice President Mike Pence and the Coronavirus Task Force that urges the total reopening of the nation’s businesses and schools.

The letter states that, while they value every life that has indeed been lost due to the infection caused by the Chinese coronavirus, the physicians assert the evidence that now exists indicates the lockdowns have “not been necessary to save lives but instead inflicted devastating harm on 10s of millions of people.”

“We CAN treat the sick and protect the vulnerable without social and economic lockdown,” reads the letter, led by healthcare providers from the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).

The doctors bring several points to light.

“This virus is survivable by greater than 99% of those infected,” they observe. “For those under 60, the estimated infection fatality rate is 0.05%. On average, the infection fatality rate is 0.2%.”

In addition, about 80 percent of those infected with COVID-19 “have no symptoms or mild symptoms at most,” they continue.

“We now know that a well-defined subset of the population is vulnerable to severe illness or death by COVID-19,” the doctors say, specifically noting nursing home patients, who suffer psychologically as well because they are isolated from family members.

The physicians take to task the media which they accuse of “terrifying people, creating crippling fear that has drained the life out of our society.”

They add that “public health officials and administrators” have also been “interfering with medical decision-making,” and specifically cite some elected officials and state boards that have “prevented the use of safe and FDA approved medications” that treat the COVID-19 infection.

“Physicians are also pressured to count deaths in a way that inflates the...

Lockdowns Could Potentially Cause ‘More Deaths Than COVID-19 Itself’

Investment bank JP Morgan claims to have found that coronavirus infection rates have decreased in states where lockdowns have been lifted, and that continued lockdowns might cause “more deaths than COVID-19 itself.”

Although the lockdowns may have been initially justified due to “the absence of conclusive data,” they say that the current data is in favor of reopening. “Full lockdown policies in some European countries did not produce any change in pandemic parameters,” they argue, and “virtually everywhere, infection rates have declined after reopening, even after allowing for an appropriate measurement lag.”

The lockdowns were continued even “while our knowledge of the virus and lack of effectiveness of total lockdowns evolved.”

JP Morgan said that while “millions of livelihoods were being destroyed by these lockdowns,” they were “administered with little consideration that they might not only cause economic devastation but potentially more deaths than COVID-19 itself.”

The paper argues that despite recent data that shows infection rates declining in places that have lifted lockdowns, “politics emerged as a new and significant risk,” with partisan divides and political implications that influenced the government’s response.

“Despite the conditions for re-opening being mostly met across the US, it is not yet happening in the largest economic regions,” they argue. “Worrying populism related to the virus is putting at risk global cooperation and trade.”

In the United States, “the response of the current administration to COVID-19 became a focal point of...

Muslim Terrorist Adam Alsahli identified in 'terrorism-related' naval base shooting In Corpus Christi

The entrances to the Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi are closed following an active shooter threat

A shooting at a Texas naval air station that wounded a sailor and left the gunman dead early Thursday was being investigated as “terrorism-related,” the FBI said, but divulged few details as to why.

The suspect was identified as Adam Alsahli of Corpus Christi, according to three officials familiar with the investigation who were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

At about 6:15 a.m., the gunman tried to speed through a security gate at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, opening fire and wounding the sailor, a member of base security, U.S. officials told the AP. But she was able to roll over and hit the switch that raised a barrier, preventing the man from getting onto the base, the officials said.

Other security personnel shot and killed the man.

There was an initial concern that he may have an explosive device, but Navy experts swept the area and the car and found nothing. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details about an ongoing investigation. Officials were still working to process the crime scene late into the day and had recovered some type of electronic media.

The base was on lockdown for about five hours, but it was lifted shortly before noon. The main gate was reopened, though the gate where the incident occurred was still shut down.
