91.1% of Guatemalans Migrate to the U.S. for Economic Reasons
Last month, the Guatemalan government participated in the "Encounter with Migrants 2017", an event that aims to bring the Guatemalan migrant community in the United States and Guatemalan entrepreneurs closer together in order to promote investment, boost productivity of remittances, and curb emigration. During the event, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Martínez noted that the majority of Guatemalans migrate to the United States for better economic opportunities.
According to the "Survey on International Migration of Guatemalans and Remittances 2016", by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 91.1 percent of Guatemalans emigrate to the United States for economic reasons. Per the report, 56.8 percent of Guatemalans migrate in search of better employment, 32.9 percent to improve their income, 1.2 percent to buy a home, and 0.1 percent to open businesses. The memo says the administration is suffering under “withering information campaigns designed to first undermine, then delegitimize and ultimately remove the President.” It also said there is a mindset within the White House inadequate to the threat.

Nelson Hernandez Mena, 48, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He made a court appearance Monday morning.
The incident happened after Mena followed a group from a Salvadoran restaurant in Lake Worth, a witness told police.
The victim, Juan Javier Cruz, 22, died in the shooting. Multiple witnesses confirmed that Mena followed Cruz and his friends out of Restaurante y Pupuseria Las Flores in downtown Lake Worth and threatened them for being gay.

The photographer, who was not working for the station at the time, was using his phone to record video of a large crowd of Monument Avenue protesters passing by The Camel, a live music venue, on West Broad Street.
“Stop filming bro,” one protester yelled.

At that point video showed the photographer's phone knocked out of his hands. Video then captured a protester hit the photojournalist with what he described as a big stick.
Police officers responded and the photojournalist was transported via ambulance to the hospital, where he received four staples in his skull. He was later released from the hospital.

Scaramucci: Elements Within Washington and White House Are Trying to ‘Eject’ Trump
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said Sunday that there are "elements" in Washington and the White House who are seeking to "eject" President Donald Trump.
Scaramucci. who served less than two weeks before getting fired in the wake of a profanity-laden interview with the New Yorker, appeared on ABC's "This Week" Sunday for his first interview since his dismissal.
Scaramucci discussed with host George Stephanopoulos the competing elements in the White House and how some people are afraid to tell Trump the truth, as well as the continuing problem of White House leakers.
Stephanopoulos said he felt Scaramucci was describing a "hornet's nest" of sorts within the Trump administration.
"The president is not a representative of the political establishment class, and so for whatever reason, people have made a decision that they want to eject him," Scaramucci said. "It's almost like he's opened up the door now for America's CEOs and America's billionaires to enter the Washington political system. The members of that political class do not like that."
Upon taking the job, Scaramucci had vowed to fire all White House leakers. Stephanopoulos asked him if Trump was fighting "an enemy within the White House."
"I think that there are elements inside of Washington, also inclusive in the White House, that are not necessarily abetting the president's interests or his agenda," Scaramucci said. "I absolutely believe that, yes."

Trump Gets Tough with China as North Korean Crisis Escalates
On Friday, Trump called his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, to warn him that the U.S. will conduct an investigation into China’s trade practices with the U.S., a senior administration official told CNN. Trump plans to order U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to launch the probe Monday with the goal of identifying unfair trade practices that have places the U.S. at a severe economic and financial disadvantage.
The probe, which will rely upon Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and could result in steep tariffs, will begin as U.S. tensions with North Korea continue to escalate while Trump pressures the Chinese to exert their influence over North Korea and its nuclear missile program.
"The United States government can, and does, work with countries to address serious concerns such as North Korea while also pursuing measures to address economic concerns, such as the theft of U.S. intellectual property," a U.S. National Security Council official told CNN.

Car plows into counter protesters during white nationalist rally in Virginia
Goldy’s Periscope video shows a demonstrator on the hood of a car as it was being pushed from behind by another vehicle.
The video shows the car that rear ended the vehicle immediately speeding away in reverse.
The scene was immediately chaos as the injured lay on the ground and others attempted to flee the scene.

N. Korea 'on standby to launch,' state-run paper says in response to Trump's latest warnings
The assertion was made in an editorial that also states the Paektusan army is now “on the standby to launch fire into its mainland, waiting for an order of final attack."
The editorial in North Korea on Saturday also said the U.S. "finds itself in an ever worsening dilemma, being thrown into the grip of extreme security unrest by the DPRK. Doctors Without Borders Suspends Mediterranean Rescues As Migrant Dispute Mounts
The aid group’s decision is the latest development in mounting tensions between Rome and NGOs as migration dominates Italy’s political agenda ahead of elections early next year.
“We are suspending our activities because now we feel that the threatening behavior by the Libyan coastguard is very serious … we cannot put our colleagues in danger,” the president of MSF’s Italian arm Loris De Filippi told Reuters.
Almost 600,000 migrants have arrived in Italy over the past four years, the vast majority setting sail from lawless Libya in flimsy vessels operated by people smugglers. More than 13,000 migrants have died trying to make the crossing.
Charity boats have played a growing role in rescues, picking up more than a third of all migrants brought ashore so far this year against less than one percent in 2014.
However, Italy fears the groups are facilitating people smuggling and encouraging migrants to make the passage, and it has proposed a Code of Conduct governing how they operate.
Some groups, including MSF, have refused to sign the code.
They object to a requirement that Italian police officers be on their boats and that the boats must take migrants to a safe port themselves, rather than transferring them to other vessels to allow smaller boats to stay in the area for further rescues.
