No, that was play pretend crt, for the dimmer masses. The truth was it was economic and political. They were 1% of the population and, rightly or wrongly, held 99 percent of the wealth... somehow. As well, as in America, they had gained nearly veto-proof control of the government, locking out the natives. There were real grievances, if not all were guilty. It was a "kill them all, let God and Satan sort them out" sort of thing.
