While the DHS does have an Inspector General, that office does not investigate criminal events r civil matters
That obligation falls solely to the FBI.

Further proof is investigations are not within the primary purpose of SS. Primary purpose of SS is protection of government officials, and safeguarding financial matters.
Investigations are typically financial crimes. SS does not investigate assassinations or attempts thereof.
That is solely the purview of FBI.
