On that "yes" meme, I got one of those calls years ago after I had read the same story somewhere. I replied in the same manner. I had to laugh at how frustrated the caller got trying to get me to say the magic word.
I normally don't answer calls from odd area codes. In the few cases I do, I say nothing. If the caller is legit, they usually will say something reasonable. Most times, the caller says nothing and the phone goes dead after 10 or 15 seconds. Works quite well.
